RGB Pick Up Thread Of Swag!

Strange there’s no Genesis option. I take it the board itself requires some soldering?

I asked about that on Era last fall, I guess it has to do with the number of wires for Genesis compared to the other systems.

No soldering that I know of for the retro board.

My biggest issues with the Brooks Retro and the McCthullu board is that they both have pretty poor SNES, and PC Engine support. Those were two consoles I really wanted the stick for, and they’re kind of a pain in the ass to use on those systems. I speak with first hand experience of the McC board, I don’t have the brooks but people tell me its basically the same support wise as the McC.

I use a pair of McCthullu boards in my Naomi Universal cab to play Dreamcast and Saturn games. What is the issue specifically with SNES and PC Engine?

I’m also interested in your opinion on the issues for SNES. It was one of the main consoles I was planning on using the Brook board or McC with…if I ever buy one.

RJ45 to SNES cables are easy to buy (see bodine’s post a couple up) so I assumed it would be pretty straight forward.

picked up some classics at my local Mega Replay

It was garage sale day in my town and I hit the trail with my wife early in the morning to try our luck. It wasn’t quite as good as last year, but we found some great CDs I had been looking for, a fantastic Pioneer DVD/SACD player for $5, an IBM mechanical keyboard, and some things for the kids.

On the gaming side it was a little disappointing, but I did get a Wii U Pro controller for $0.25 which was totally worth the searching. (Yes, a quarter.)

Nice, I was excited to find one for a mere $35

Excited to play this for the first time.

I picked it up digitally with the intent of getting a boxed copy later on, but BEEP’s Umihara Kawase Fresh! comes in a SFC-style box with its own unique artwork!

I haven’t used mine with the SNES in a bit, but from what I remember it didn’t work with the SD2SNES. I think I needed to have a second controller plugged in to work with the SD2SNES Then I would have to like unhook the RJ45 cable from the arcade stick, and then plug it back in to get it to work with games on the SNES. It seemed like when I got it to work, it would work alright, but it was like a big hassle getting it to that working state.

This is the McC, by the way. I haven’t used the Brooks Retro board myself.

Got a bunch of stuff this week. First, two records from Ship to Shore vinyl, Gradius III SNES + arcade soundtrack and Seaside Lovers Memories in Beachhouse for some smooth summer grooves and ambient shmup sounds. Just need to get a working record player now.

RetroGamer Yoshi’s Island cover issue with interview w/Tezuka. Don’t buy Retro Gamer a lot because it focuses too much on UK micro computer stuff and is really expensive (up to $14.99 USD per issue now) but it’s still high quality and certain issues like this I just gotta have.

Got the Shooting Game Historica vol 4 set which features TwinBee figures with poseable arms and legs and the Flint Lock from Xexex (the tentacle and ship fins are moveable), haven’t assembled the other figures in the set yet.

Finally got a copy of Parodius Portable for PSP. Got it for only $54 mint from a U.S. dealer, pretty good bargain considering it usually goes for at least $80-90. This completes my full set of the Konami PSP shmup collections which I’ve been buying on and off since 2006 when the Gradius Portable collection was first released.

Re: Retrogamer mag- I’m with you on it having too much micro computer stuff, but subscribing can knock down the price a bit, even if you’re outside the UK. The best part of a subscription, though, is the custom covers you get. The Yoshi’s Island issue is particularly nice and clean.

That said, I recent cancelled my sub because it was too expensive and never had time to read it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Damn, I’m jealous of that PSP Konami shooting game collection you’ve got there! Nice one for finishing the set.

I’ve only got Gradius Collection and Twinbee Portable. It’s interesting seeing the differences between the two games’ approaches, from what I recall Gradius was in-house and Twinbee was M2.

Thanks! And I believe all of them except the Gradius collection were done by M2, hence why all the others come with such amazing extras. You know there’s zero chance the Salamander collection would have had Xexex if it was done in house or by anyone else other than M2, not to mention the custom smooth scrolling MSX ports they also included, they’re the best.

@fester

Thanks for the tip on subscribing, is there anywhere I can see some of those custom covers? (was there a second Yoshi cover?)

Sure! Here’s the YI cover, plus a couple other of my favorites:

Seems all the new gamer mags are from euroland so cost more to get over here. Guess I’m fine struggling to read my GameInformer every month…
