Looking forward to replaying a lot of these. I’m too lazy to break out the original systems to play them on
.
I’m enjoying OoE a lot more than I did a decade ago for the reasons you mentioned. While the level design has been more uneven compared with Portrait of Ruin (some levels are great, while others are very forgettable) it expands upon the variety of locales of that game, which I like. This sort of thing also nods back to the older games which weren’t confined to a single large castle.
Also the boss fights are expertly telegraphed - I have to wonder whether playing today on a DSi XL makes a big difference since the sprites are larger and easier to read. Or maybe I was just rubbish in 2009!
It’s really cool how experimental the last two DS Castlevania games were.
There’s nothing quite like beating a boss with just 1HP left…
I forgot I had Clash King V201 on the way, honestly can’t wait to play it. The game looks like an Excite-truck or Hydrothunder style fun trashy romp: Clash King V201 - YouTube
Whoa… never saw Clash King before. Looks like DS Burnout!
Rare midweek pickups!
I kinda hate this place as much as I love it. It keeps my mind on Retro. Today I stumbled into a sale at Just Press Play. BOGO on pre-PS4/Switch/One stuff not in the display case. 10% off the stuff in it. I paid $30 for all the non Neo Geo stuff and $83 for Top Players Golf. That TPG is MINT! Holy smoke. The case is perfect inside and the manual in the bag too. One of the few affordable AES games I did not have.
The DS library continues to astonish in its variety, haha.
Majesco picked it up and released it in America as Sideswiped, if you want to grab a copy.
Grabs for the month
(for some reason Unit 13 had two carts in the case…)
@DaveLong Sky Crawlers really dissapointed me. Prop plane Ace Combat sounded great to me but the wind shear mechanic is annoying as hell and the story is bad with weak and obnoxious characters.
Finally got some good pickups.
Found the nes games at a thrift store in a box.
I asked how much they wanted and she said $15. I didn’t even bother to look through them before buying.
I also pretty much doubled my ps4 collection with an eBay lot I picked up.
Really want to give detective pikachu a play through but I can’t find my charger anywhere.
I paid all of $3 for it adjusted for the BOGO so even if it’s not my thing, it cost me pennies. I figure down the road that will be one of the rarer “gamer” games on the Wii too. Speculating on that? You bet.
Zombie Daisuki on DS arrived - one of Chunsoft’s last games before the merger with Spike.
I’ll get round to it once I’m done with, erm, Order of Ecclesia, Air Traffic Controller and Clash King V201…
I just bought insurance which, in addition to other stuff, covers my video game collection.
Does that count as swag?
I have homeowners but I probably need to make sure it would cover the collection I have now.
Who do you have that they’ll specifically cover your collection?
We tried this hmm a year or two ago, and basically every insurance company we called about getting my collection insured was like nope, not going to do it. Well there was one that would consider it, but only if I agreed to put everything into like a vault, or giant safety deposit box and not play them any more. Basically it was if its still being used they weren’t going to insure it. In the end we just upped our home owners insurance to roughly cover the cost of it.
Picked up Raiden V for Switch (pictured with my Mk.II Red and Blue gashapon figures, not included). Got the LE at Best Buy a few days ago for only $39.99, so saved about 5 bucks off regular retail. Comes with a nice concept art booklet and mini soundtrack CD. There will be only one print run of the physical version so if you like Raiden better get it while you can.
Yep, that’s what I did too.
I had Head Hunter on the Dreamcast. It was really good.
Friend stopped by with a tub of stuff that he cleaned out from his closet. He talked to his brother who has all their old SNES and N64 stuff, and I’ll be getting that as well later. His brother must also have his NES top loader and Contra Force as well as a couple other things.
Still going through all of it.
Sorted through it all.
