RGB Pick Up Thread Of Swag!

ha, I didn’t know those existed! What games utilize it? Arkanoid port and …? lol

I think it was four games: Arkanoid DS, Puzzle Bobble Galaxy and both Space Invaders Extreme 1 and 2. It adds a lot to all four games - and Space Invaders Extreme has separate high score tables for paddle/D-Pad controls.

Taito released a new version of Cameltry on DS but it predated the Paddle Controller, would have been perfect for it!

We’re those original long boxes just a tactic to get more shelf space or was there any technical advantages to those cases?

I think I had Warhawk and maybe Toshinden, and they didn’t fit anywhere

As far as I know, Sony only used the long boxes because they ran out of regular jewel cases and bought the long boxes from Sega in the interim.

That’s the “Half-remembered message board mumble passed down as fact” explanation and it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me because…

1: What would Sony have to gain from buying from their direct competitor instead of directly from whoever was the manufacturer of those plastic cases?

2: There were multiple PS1 longboxes styles, including the one with the bumpy ridges (which are actually the most common) and cardboard which wouldn’t make sense if the format was only adopted due to an abundance of leftovers plastic cases (unlike PS1, saturn longboxes were uniform)

Most likely the PS1 had longboxes the same reason the Saturn and 3DO did: because focus test groups liked them and Bigger was Better. Until it wasn’t.

It was reported as fact in EGM, for whatever that’s worth. I have the issue buried somewhere.

Yeah and if I’m Sega, I’m not sure I’d be selling my unique box design to my biggest competitor.

Then again, this era of Sega wasn’t great with business practices, and no one really thought the PlayStation would be anything more than a Jaguar or 3DO.

Nice! I have 2 of the 3. The white one is my original and the pink one used to belong to my sister. The white one is in decent shape. Some small scruffs with the shoulder buttons also yellowing. I put a Zelda decal on it a long time ago though.

Also have a third DS Lite. The gold Zelda one.

My Retro Fighters Striker DC arrived today. I only had a few moments with it, but it feels good! I didn’t play DC back in the day so it may be sacrilegious, lol. I don’t mind the DC controller outside the analog stick. I also got my Kuro in recently so I’m playing DC in 480p for the first time ever! whatyearisit.jpg

I’m not sure whether I should pull the trigger on one of those or wait for Retro-bit’s offering later this year:

The six face buttons are a nice advantage! I don’t play a ton of fighting games so I was fine with the four. Wireless is nice for a larger room too (pending lag tests).

No new retro pickups for now, but I thought I’d grab this one to support Falcom stuff appearing on more systems.

A six button is nice for the 6 button fighters for sure. A Dreamcast Saturn style controller would be even more awesome

After years of wanting to play it coupled with the likelihood we aren’t getting a Sega Ages style remaster anytime soon and setting aside a few other purchases for later, I was finally able to get a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga. The dealer actually came down on the price a bit and everything is in near mint condition.

I started playing the game yesterday and it’s amazing so far, I just wish I’d known that having a Panzer Zwei II save file on your Saturn before you start Saga unlocks a bonus item in the game later (but based on what I read it’s just a “lullaby” style music track from Zwei which plays at your campsite so not a big deal I guess?) I don’t currently own Zwei anyways so oh well, Zwei and Panzer 1 are next on my list. Will be great to have all three on my shelf eventually along with my copy of Orta and maybe a copy of Panzer Mini for Game Gear if I ever find a copy.

I’m ready to install Voultar’s SNES THS73734 RGB Bypass kit for my Super Nintendo Jr. (SNS-101).

Congrats @AgentUnknown, I’m certain you will love the game. I have owned my copy since its release and have played it several times through over the past few decades and I love it every time. A wonderful RPG that doesn’t have any unnecessary padding. It’s excellent from start to finish. Enjoy!
