Wow, what a haul! Congrats! /Sega scream!
I’ve always been intrigued with that Asciiware joystick. Apart from the main awesomeness of the pickup, nice grab in the goat version of the goat hockey game!

I’m not Canadian but I can play a little high level Sega hockey before going out for a rip.
You and me both with the Asciiware stick! I’ll pop a review in the Genesis thread when I’ve had some time with it. I want to play some shooters like Gaiares, Truxton, and Hellfire with it to check it out as that seems like the proper era of US releases to test it with. It was actually one of the reasons I decided to bid since I never owned one and I think the Sega one is less than great.
My retro area is getting overhauled atm but hopefully by the weekend I’m going to be ready with everything set up again. I’m going to do some phone streaming via CRT on my Twitch once I’m back up and running because why the heck not? I upgraded to an iPhone 12 Pro Max recently so I’m very curious how it will look and sound now. I did it on an iPhone 8 a few times and it was not bad at all… should be a big upgrade.
Just bought a Vita, again.
Surprised to see we don’t have a Vita thread. Not retro enough?
Wow man, look at that haul! Epic level up to the Sega collection. Still waiting on that CDX laser from Hong Kong. Hoping it’ll get here soon and we can get your CDX put back in to your collection!
You bought a PS VIta (again).gif!
It will be 10 years old (Japanese release) this December so it will be retro then based on the Retronauts “10 year is retro” rule. Which is the definitive rule.
I’ve been buying some Vita games recently, another on the way to arrive later this week (Dragon’s Crown).
Thanks! 16-bit is my jawn. It was time.
Addendum to the story… I hadn’t hooked up my 32X in years so that became a treasure hunt in my basement last night. I needed the plastic spacer for the Model 2 Genesis and I needed the power cord. I had kept the Genesis 1 I bought in 1992 connected with the 32X for all that time but had not been using it because I was using the CDX exclusively for many years.
I’ve lived here for 20 years. I raised three boys here. The basement becomes a dumping ground for lots of things. I knew I was in for a serious dumpster dive.
The plastic spacer, which I expected to take a long time to find was easy! Right under a Gravis PC joystick in a milk crate covered in dust. Woohoo! The power cable… well… I went through every tupperware/sterilite I have. No dice. Found all sorts of PC game boxes and CD cases, old magazines, a gazillion cables, game manuals, a badly yellowed PlayStation 1, you name it… and was ready to call it quits and order one.
Then I thought, “Did I keep the box?” and went to look on a shelf where most of my game boxes are. I discovered one more ancient tupperwareish thing with metal handles that clamp the top on… THAT’S A BINGO! Inside were a handful of Genesis ASCII Pads and other controllers including a NeGCon I had misplaced long ago!
Tonight I will find out if that power supply still works when all three wall warts get plugged in. Probably will order a Trio from Retro Game Cave. Man, what a night though. I’m looking at a move in the next year or so… and it was probably good I got the lay of the land down there. Holy moly.
Awesome! Not sure if it is any more or less economical but I followed FirebrandX’s guide and put my own triad supply together for all 3. Worth a look.
Man… can I just rummage through your basement? Sounds fun.
My parents’ basement was like that. I would “rediscover” tons of old cables, controllers, connectors, systems, and games I had put aside for a while every now and then. Old PC towers were particularly fun too.
Now I have all that stuff hooked up and everything not in use is in a separate storage facility or has been lost to time so I never get to stumble upon cool things anymore.
I think all of you would have a great time in my basement.
I “know” where most things are down there, but there are definitely pockets of forgotten parts and devices. I have two old PCs in a little space above the steps on the way down to the basement that I really ought to do something with/about. I think all told, there are three PCs here like that. There are seven desktop PCs in this house right now and four of them are totally viable for gaming into the late 2010s. The Alienware Alpha is the least capable one.
Other than a tupperware of GBA, I don’t think there are many actual games down there. The discs are upstairs for the most part. As many of you know, I wrote for Computer Games Strategy Plus/Computer Games Magazine for years. I received and purchased a LOT of computer games during that time and even some console games as they moved into that space with Xbox 360 and PS3’s launch. I have a TON of PC games. It’s probably the least catalogued part of what I own.
As I start preparing for this move I expect to happen, I’ll try to remember to document stuff along the way. I really need to find all the mags with my reviews and previews in them so I can photograph and/or scan all that stuff. I also loved reading other mags so I have lots of Next Generation, Die Hard Game Fan, Play, and all sorts of other mags down there. It’s all inside plastic containers so seems to be in good shape still.
I had an old computer case on a local buy and sell site for a couple months with very little interest, down to $100 CAD.
Tonight I got a hit on it, and the guy wanted to trade for it. After a bit back and forth we decided that my case and $40 for his Switch Lite was a fair deal.
Considering I had no use for the case, this is a really good win for me. I’m super happy with the trade.
Recent pickups! These were all found in the wild except for Rockman & Forte. That one is slated for a translation or repro.
This copy of Bases Loaded looks great from the front…
But clearly lived a hard life. Seriously this thing was gnarly inside. One of the worst carts I’ve ever purchased from a retail establishment. Unfortunately I can’t get it to load without pinstripes. I put a lot of elbow grease into it but I can’t clean the contacts any more without wearing them down. I wonder what the heck happened to it.
I also grabbed a couple of games for SA-1 conversion donors. I think these will end up as Gradius III and Contra III.
Really fun haul. I was shocked at how good that Speedy Gonzales game is. I didn’t mean to come away with a cartoon heavy pile of games but there it is. Great stuff all around.
Missile Defense 3D is underrated. I would say it’s the best 8-bit 3d glasses game for gameplay. It’s too bad it doesn’t have “2d mode” outside of hacked roms like other games do.
Yeah, really wish it had a 2D mode. I discovered that it didn’t when I booted it up last night! Guess I need to track down the headset.
If you do, I’d love to hear impressions.
Fantastic. I would just love to play the translations of these. If there’s any reason for me to look into an overdrive for SNES, it’s that.
Yep, weather it’s a cart conversion, ever drive, or jail broken Super NT the point is that we can play them on hardware!
Wow good catch with Hagane. Even loose cartridges that I caught sight of in less urbanised areas when I was last in west Japan weren’t cheap enough to make me bite.
Guess I’ll be content with owning Ninja Cop on GBA for now…
I really want to go to Japan some day. I imagine it is fascinating.
