These really do look great.

Early DDG games have the best aesthetic, the PS2 era games feel quite cold and sterile in comparison.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night on PS1, RGB on Sony CRT. Can never see too many pics of this one!

I can never see enough shots of this game. Is this a consumer set?

Yeap, it’s a KV-21DA55. Though I’m sure it had an equivalent model outside Japan, I’m not sure what it was… It would have been slightly different though, as this one has a Sony Multi AV socket to facilitate the RGB, which I don’t think was on any sets sold outside of Japan. This page has the specs, it’s fantastic! News and Information "KV-29DS55,KV-25DS55,KV-21DS55"

My shots don’t even do it justice to be honest. The camera picks up too much bloom and gets the colours wrong. Richter is a rich shade of blue in person, but looks whiter in the photos. The trees too are much more vibrant in person.

Some shots i took a while ago for a twitter comp Taito was running. Darius Gaiden on PS4 and Saturn. It’s interesting because common belief is the Saturn game is arcade perfect but there’s actually some obvious differences, like this entire field of trees missing in the background! As a result the bomb also colours the floor wrong.

Wow super cool!

are the scanlines from the collection itself? they look pretty good

Yeah from the collection. Doesn’t have as many options as the M2 ShotTriggers games but what’s there looks great.

Do you have the new collection with G Darius on it? Just wondering how the polygonal graphics are presented compared to CRT, apparently there’s a mode to output the original resolution but whether the display filter is any good is another matter entirely!

Good point, of the original PS2 games only Ryojouhen escapes this, but at 480i it looks overly chunky and basic, bit like Tokyo Bus Guides 1 and 2.

Final, the Shinkansen one and Professional 2 are technically very proficient but it’s all rather drab, especially Final.

Mystical Ninja 2 Starring Goemon, or Ganbare Goemon Derodero Douchuu Obake Tenko Mori as it’s known in Japan:

Great texturework in the town environments.

Not yet i’m afraid, probably waiting for a sale and for them to add practice mode on that one, as i’m not very good at the PS1 version!

Wipeout 3 on PS1, RGB Sony CRT. I was hoping to have some N64 Extreme G2 shots as well, for a fun comparison. But you’ll just have to trust me, there’s not a single good looking part of XG2, even if I could take photos that weren’t a muddy mess. Your eyes deserve better!

Superb texture design there and minimal warping, looks smashing in still shots like Ridge Racer Type 4.
