SCANLINE SCREENSHOT THREAD. BECAUSE 240p IS ALL THE P'S I NEED. (56k warning)

awesome shots! what a beautiful game. I’ve been playing its predecessor Endless Duel on the SNES and even that game looks gorgeous. wish I could find a cheap copy of this and BA2

It is beautiful, you will enjoy Battle Assault. I heard that Battle Assault 2 is not so great though…

I don’t consider it cheating. It’s still scanlines

yeah I was thinking more that I’m not sure if the actual SNES’ composite signal is that clean, so can’t really claim it’s SNES composite per se

Dragon Ball Z Hyper Dimension on a 1 chip Super Famicom via RGB on a Sony PVM20L2.

The game is a bit clunky but the art is moody and the sprites are gorgeous.

Nice cloth folds/wrinkle detail on those sprites! kind of surprising for an anime game.

DKC - Consumer slot mask 10" - For Rare’s pre-rendered games I think I prefer the softer 2CHIP coupled with a low TVL CRT, the art style feels overly noisy on anything sharper

Mega Man X2 - Consumer Trinitron 21"

Killer Instinct - Consumer slot mask 10"

@akumagorath - I checked out real SNES composite (PAL), there’s a lot of ‘rainbowing’, it didn’t look that nice compared to other composite outputs I’ve seen. I did notice the 1CHIP SNES is also sharper in composite than 2/3CHIPS lol

Been really enjoying Defenders Of Oasis on game gear.

McWill screen is great, but I still wish there was an integer scaled solution out there.

Which monitor and tube is that? Fantastic

First pics are on a PVM-14M4U, last pic (Parodius) is on a PVM-2130QM. Lovely tubes.

Wanted to share some 240p Eden Ring! PS4 Pro downscaled from 720p to 240p via a Corio scaler. I don’t think the results are stellar but it’s still fun to see what it looks like and how it plays.

Looks like PS2-era CG lol, I love it!

Yeah, it really feels like living in an alternate timeline when you play a game like this. I’d like to see how this looks in 480i too. I may have to hook up the Super Emotia and see what that would look like.

Super Smash Bros. (Wii VC) off my JVC AV-21DMT4

I try to get pictures as best as I can from my phone, but this is the first one I’ve managed to get where you can see the individual phosphors.

makes me wonder if there’s a device out there that can downscale to 480i. you’ll lose the scanlines, but you’ll gain back some detail

N64 games on the Wii VC on a CRT is such an interesting experience. if I’m not mistaken they can only run at 480i but games like the Zelda games look very crisp with the downsampled upscaled graphics

100% agree about DKC. I regret getting rid of my small consumer set because it looked so nice on it. The game doesn’t look right on my PVM. It’s way too sharp and definitely isn’t the way the game was meant to be displayed

That sounds awesome, it would be cool if some dev made a game with the intentional look of that era CG (Also, a game in the style of those N64 Silicone Graphics renders!)

@akumagorath I would love such a device, I’ve still been meaning to figure out how to do that with PC emulation. Double-res for some 240p 3D games does wonders, like racing games, for example, you get far better clarity at longer distances.

@BarrelCannon Yeah these Rare games feel too sharp even on mid-level consumer sets, not surprised they don’t suit PVMs

They can run at 480p as well.

oh yeah for sure, I just had SD CRT’s in mind when I wrote that

it’s a conundrum as it probably looks better, but you don’t have the N64 controller

Really, any device that converts from HDMI to composite would technically qualify. I’m sure there are tons of them out there.

But if you want “lossless” 480i, then yea, I imagine that will be a challenging thing to set up even though it shouldn’t be.
