Alien Soldier End Credits Boss Introductions. My favorite Megadrive game of all time. (Megadrive HAA-2510 Scart RGB + Samsung Plano Flat CS15K8MJQ CRT Scart TV)
The option to window frame is interger scaled, so the resolution runs on a multiple. I couldn’t get ossc to work on 1080p because the scanlines wouldn’t switch over, but interlaced had no problem with it and made the game look as it’s supposed to.
What is SF2 Turbo running through @cornerstone? Looks fantastic!
Hey thanks! It’s a beautiful game.
This is running on an SNK 29” arcade candy cabinet from a groovymame setup
Off screen shots of Ultima IV running on a regular CRT TV (Tandy 1000 HX with CGA2RGB and a scart cable to an older 21" Sony Trinitron), Vs on a quality VGA CRT monitor (modern PC and high-res-capable 21" HP Trinitron) at 640x400. Taken from a phone.
These are fantastic. It’s sharp but edges and the form of sprites curve rather than having an obvious sharp pixel stepped look. What model of Samsung is this again?
@khaz I think I prefer the regular CRT TV here. I love how organic it’s making the trees, characters and especially the grass/land appear
Samsung CS15k8mjq
Me too, and it’s how it was supposed to be displayed. The difference would have been less obvious with a lower end VGA monitor, on which the doubled lines would leave almost no gap. I don’t believe multisync 15kHz/31kHz was a thing in 1987, else it would have been included in the VGA standard instead of line-doubling 200p.
In the future I’ll try to take a photo with my other, smaller VGA monitor, and also in Composite once I receive my hue control box (colours are twisted on this IBM clone).
Taking those photos I noticed the slight difference in aspect ratio. DOSBox and Windows were tweaked to display properly 640x400 in fullscreen (no black borders or scaling), and the TV was adjusted to the best of my ability (with the picture touching the bezel). I don’t know if there was a difference in aspect ratio between a TV and a CGA monitor.
Hmm yeah, now that you mention the aspect ratio does look different. Text looks vertically longer on the PC CRT.
Looking forward to seeing more! These comparisons are really great at seeing how much the art changes depending on display types. Will be nice to see how composite shots compare to these.
@SNESFan89 Getting a lot of Russian google hits for this model. I wonder if it has a different EU model or it’s just uncommon. I shouldn’t be looking to get any more CRTs anyway!
kekmekmik on reddit posted some nice 480i Bloodstained shots from his Sony Trinitron, can’t wait to try this out on a CRT myself.
My retro setup isn’t up and running so I’m getting my scanline fix from the internet right now and came across these excellent shots by Dochartaigh.

Here’s some “new” pics I’ve made after requiring two CRT VGA Monitors (two weeks ago, spend no money on them), one of them LG StudioWorks 356 with classic triad shadow mask! (Megadrive & XRGB 2 Plus)
Looks phenomenal!
I prefer the top image for sure. Looks native compared to the bottom which looked like its being line doubled. The line doubling makes it all pixelated looking.
