SCANLINE SCREENSHOT THREAD. BECAUSE 240p IS ALL THE P'S I NEED. (56k warning)

Yoshi’s Island is really popping there. Gorgeous. I’ve found it’s one of the most impressive examples for showing off a PVM.

It’s one of the most impressive examples of video games generally

The art in YI is insane. How they managed to do the hand drawn look on the SNES is so far beyond almost all other graphics of the era, either traditional sprites or the downsampled renders. I think it is one of Miyamoto/ Tezuka’s three masterpieces. Together they did:

Link’s Awakening
Yoshi’s Island
Super Mario 64

in a row!

Is that like… supposed to be impressive or something?

(Seriously, how is it possible to be that good with that level of variety on 3 very different types of hardware?)

Still calibrating the Sony - Trinitron KV-27FV310. It’s nowhere near done and still needs major work. It’s picture is very blurry, a real mess. The FV310 is the only Sony Trinitron I came across that came with the least problems, I guess that’s a plus, The JVC D-Series and I’Art are better sets in my personal opinion. Better colors and detail, hands down. Sony sets can be decent, but needs to be heavily tweaked. Happy I have both brands to compare. The FV310 has the better speakers and produces a superior sound, no doubt about that. A little Street Fighter III: Double Impact action on the Sega Dreamcast through Retro-Bit S-Video Cable to the Sony - Trinitron KV-27FV310.

I had always found it impossible on an emulator to pull off any of the desperation moves but on real hardware I found it really easy.

It’s an absolutely gorgeous game and I love the atmospheric soundtrack.

I also picked up a small 14" Toshiba 14FA44 yesterday. It’s fun to have a small consumer set alongside my PVM. Some pics:

It’s worth noting if you weren’t already aware that PSOne classics on PSP are actually a kind of semi-hardware backward compatibility. The PSOne code is executed natively on the MIPS CPU, only the GPU functions are emulated - kinda like the PS2.

Is that like the PS2 Slim too? I always wondered how PS2 Slim compared to PS2 BC.

I’ve never actually had an OG PS2.

Huh. I didn’t realize that. I always wondered how a relatively low-powered handheld could pull off such good PS1 emulation. Nifty little device!

The PS2 slim is a little different as there are two revisions, the 75000 series and newer replaces the PS1 CPU that was onboard the original PS2 with a PPC IOP that runs an emulator called “deckard” which works well but gives rise to some incompatibilities and bugs with some PS1 and PS2 games.

If your slim model is an earlier revision then you have the full BC experience.

My slim is the last production run right before the PS2 got discontinued.

Playing some Burnout 3 takedown in 480p line 2x to test the Extron DSC 301 I just got. For some reason, before, the 960p from the OSSC wouldn’t allow basically all the good image processing features from my TV including game mode and custom picture size settings but now with the output scaled to 1080p I can scale it to take the whole screen, use game mode, and the colors look much better, definitely was worth the purchase.
