I played a little bit of some Pinball Quest on NES via composite (the horror!) on the 20L5.
For those that don’t know Pinball Quest is a pinball RPG that was very ahead of its time and very elaborate compared to other pinball games on the hardware.
On one if the non-RPG tables for example, it’s circus themed with a slot machine. If you get the right combination on the slot machine, a path to a Shmup mini game opens up.
Another table has a billiards mini game built right into it.
And the RPG mode is elaborate with a currency system, attack power, boss HP, and the different items you can use. Definitely, check it out if you can.
Bonus: GTA V (which has a legit 4:3 mode if you set the resolution to a 4:3 one, while most games are just letterboxing a 16:9 signal into a 4:3 area).
The other fun thing to do is use the vertical scanlines to simulate an aperture grille from a distance - doesn’t hold up all the well up close but from a distance with hybrid scanlines and punchy brightness it adds a great texture to the video.
I dug this up - this was an early attempt, there are some threads on shmups where people ahve had much more success but you can see what I was going for - from a distance it can actually look like a CRT filter.
A few shots from my recently V2 triple bypassed Genesis Model 2 VA1.8. The RGB signal is super clean and the audio is a revelation. I never knew how good the Genesis could sound. The song in the first stage of MUSHA is such a ripper! These were shot with my iPhone on my BVM-14F5U. Shots of the mod itself soon.
I really like running the ports of RE on the OSSC because it seems the pixel count is accurate and you can do a number of things like perfect vertical scanline support, or do the pixel grid. Even with 480i, you can still do it perfect. In fact all the 480 line ports can be done to look 240p again (with the higher horizontal count.
Some advice though. If you want to get that scanline look to be more accurate, hybrid should be adjusted to blend the solid colors (red, green, blue) while the lines will separate on darker areas. Vertical you should actually keep to full because this is common of RGB and arcade monitors that the vertical lines are hardly affected.
I have Mischief Makers and adore treasure games, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to play this game. I get stuck like 2-3 levels in and have no idea what to do.
