Castlevania 64 aka Akumajo Dracula Mokushiroku Real Action Adventure on Jap N64. OSSC in 3X mode, Samsung LED T23B550EX & N64 RGB Modded.
I was playing some N64 earlier on a Sony trinitron and your shots look close to capturing the grill:
Some more Panasonic TX-G10 - Mega Drive
Yeah… that’s obviously mislabeled. It’s an LCD panel for sure. According to the samsung documentation it’s got a a-si TFT active matrix, which is a TN panel type. It’s extremely uncommon to find actual 1280720 LCD displays, which is a shame since they would look great for the ps3/360 generation.
Super soft but lossless. It doesn’t have an ounce of pixelization. But still super clean.
I really like it.
Thanks! I’ll post more down the road!
Yeah it’s a cool set, I might try recap it to see if I can solve some of the issues, always been a little afraid of tinkering inside a crt

Thanks for looking these out - the dot matrix really does have a slot-mask appearance, almost reminds me of the ‘scanlines’ look on the 3DS in 2D mode as well.
Is your Samsung native 480p? The Sony I’m looking at is 1280 x 768, so I wonder how lower resolution input would appear upscaled to it.
Yes, this samsung has a 640x480 MVA panel. And yes, it does look as good as it does exactly because it has 1:1 pixel mapping, no scaling, which is always the best option when you have choice.
Thank you. I guess I’ll pass on the Sony then, as good as it looks!
There are quite a number of good use case scenarios for that sony though. 720p content is going to look great, so any of the recent mini consoles, xbox 360, ps3, select xbox original titles that support 720, would all be great options for targeting this kind of display. There is no decent way to take 480p with integer scaling without creating pretty significant black areas around the video frame.

I’m still chipping away at this game - I’m having a blast finding all of the bonus levels and coins. I shouldn’t have waited so long to finally play these!
Phone didn’t capture this right, but it was something I did with ossc + og xbox awhile back from an earlier firmware. No scanlines, but the line count look really helps.
Edit: I want to ask you guys how well do you think this works for restoring some of that authentic look that games used to have in spite of not being ported with the correct resolution? We have a ton of games like this and even downscaling doesn’t get this correct as the scaled source itself is wrong. Arcades used to have these raster type monitors which you couldn’t even see the scanlines if you looked for them, but the line count was still there and I think it’s about the only viable alternative to these ports.
I have yet to find any “good” sites that showcase these displays from the early 80’s before scanlines were even a thing.
Great looking megadrive game, on a great looking screen. I haven’t seen a decent JVC around here for ages.
Thanks man, I’m lucky to have this monitor. Found it for $20 bucks.
Wow, crispy. These shots are awesome. One of my favorite games on that system.
Good to hear! I just got it over the weekend. It’s pretty good so far!
On another site I was told I should tag my photos and make a site. I made an Instagram account if anyone is interested in seeing my photos!
Nice, what camera and settings do you use?
