Ah, I meant ‘now with GDEmu the region games boot from doesn’t matter’
You can use a GDEmu with an image to flash the firmware, or you can also burn the disc. It needs one wire soldered to two points.
The advantage for me back in the day was that most of my games were Japanese, so running Japanese firmware meant I didn’t need a boot disc for most games, and used DC-X for PAL games.
Now using no discs, and using a Japanese console, the advantage is a nice blue logo on boot up.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good SCART cable for the Dreamcast? Hopefully shipping from NA, since I’m in Canada.

For what use case? I got a cheapish one off ebay and it works great for CRT.
I think Dreamcast – Retro Access is the main ‘high quality’ one in the US but they’re expensive.

I found a picture of my old ‘Aqua blue’ Dreamcast and controller for comparison.

Use case is RGB to a CRT, 240p/480i.
I bought one of eBay a while back and it was terrible.. bad ghosting around everything, complete junk cable.

Yeah just random luck I guess.
I’ve been interested in the ‘premium’ cables on Aliexpress recently, but haven’t bought any yet.

Honestly probably with a try.. one review says the sound is buzzing though.
RetroAccess has a great one that can switch between 480i/p. Had it for a few years now and it’s still going strong
They don’t mention 240p on the site for those ones. Do they work with 240p for games that support it?
Yes, if you put the switch to 480i, 240p games display in 240p, similar to if you were using S-video cables.
Actually I believe the switch is 15khz/31khz, it’s been a while since I’ve looked at it, but that would make more sense
We had a spring cleaning at work today so I was digging through all the accumulated crap in my cube. I’ve worked here for 28 years so there’s … a lot.
Found a printout of a purchase from Gamestop. Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 for Dreamcast at $44.99! That’s worth $90 complete today. Not too bad!
