so, i finally got around to doing this today - haven’t tried out any of the accessories yet, but controller port 1 is working again, at least! presumably, the rest of em should be fine, will test more later
i know you’re saying bypassing the fuse shouldnt matter - which is really funny, cause i went looking up info and came across your '07 post on GAF recommeding the same thing here, haha - but i recall seeing somewhere that folks might’ve replaced their PSU when installing GDEMU a while back? does anyone know about that, i totally didn’t do it and am now slightly concerned that the power draw could damage something down the road?
just really excited to have my GDEMU + dreampi setup back online, really wanna make sure this thing outlives me!
Apparently PAL PSUs are known to have heat issues with GDEMU, but as matt has done re-routing the airflow is also a recommended way to flow heat internally better.
That said dreamPSU is cheap and I’m now running Saturn and Dreamcast from an external power supply for heat reduction and ease of use. I’m quite interested in these USB-C power supplies that are now turning up for consoles (I’ve seen Dreamcast and Gamecube), universal power cables for old consoles would be fantastic for ease of set up.
BTW, does anyone have experience with a DreamConn? I’m thinking of splurging but it’s a pretty niche item and would prefer not to toss $200 out the window.
Personally it costs far too much for what is still not the greatest controller lol. No good for fighters, not that great for 3D games, really only great for racing games due to the analogue?
As above I found using an 8bitdo mod kit Gamecube controller via blueretro, which supports the analogue shoulders perfectly, is fantastic. And I sync up a bluetooth Saturn pad for all 2D games.
Very good effort by an obviously indie manufacturer however!
Well, you convinced me to dig up an old, white WiiU Pro controller I had, pair it with a Brook Wingman and call it a day. Now if only I could find a small Dreamcast logo sticker that I could use to replace the WiiU logo, I’d be set.
I’ve been away from the DC scene for a bit but recently got the urge to revisit my setup. I was originally thinking about getting a VGA box to connect the DC to my OG OSSC, but then I found this newer option. Am I correct in assuming this is the best way to connect to a 4K TV (assuming I don’t want to pay for a new Retrotink 4K)?
Thanks, saw that option, too, but concerned a little about compatibility. (“Gekko is not an upscaler so some non VGA games may not work.”) With the SCART cable it sounds like nearly everything will work? Plus, the I think the OSSC gives me the option to line double to 960p (?) which would be an added benefit?
It’s a shame I can never get these shells to match the shade of the official controllers perfectly. My previous all blue setup was a more aqua colour but didn’t match either the Japanese or US clear blue controller. Oh well, first world problems.
They do look slightly closer if the PCB is taken out of the equation, but no they’re still diferrent. The controller is a bit more aqua and the case is a bit more purple.
Here they are in sunlight from the side. It makes them look slightly closer than in real life, but there is a clear ‘richer’ colour to the console.
Always preferred the blue Swirl, it’s the Sega colour.
Now with a GDEmu I can flash the PAL firmware via the region changer for the blue intro but still just run all the NTSC images without annoying boot discs etc.
I’m with you - I never even knew about the orange swirl until much later.
I had no idea you could use the GDemu to flash firmware. I have a PAL console and a GDEmu already are there any advantages to modifying the firmware? I exclusively run NTSC games and GDEmu seems to do a pretty good job in getting them to run at 60hz.
