Sega Saturn |OT| - Playin' Saturn each day keeps Segata away!

Space Harrier and Out Run have their best port on Saturn. Out Run has a 60fps option, the sound and colors are great. With respectively the Racing Controller and the Mission Stick it’s awesome.
Just in case, japanese Mission Stick must be used with japanese Saturn.

Hell, if you turn on VF2, it’s almost certain that you will be greeted with that “there isn’t enough internal memory to save”, it eats almost 70% of it by himself and didn’t do anything special, like saving character customization and stuff.

Maybe it was intentional, a Sega move to sell more backup carts, since VF2 sold a lot.

That must be why I feel like I’m always deleting vf2 saves.

I’m intrigued–the cart has something to do with the Phoebe menu? I have been using RMENU with my RHEA. How does the menu you’re using differ?

I have one of those new all in one pseudo Saturn cards and it holds enough for saving almost anything.

Do you have your saturn running through an ossc? That picture looks really clear.

Framemeister 720p with firebrand x profiles.

Yeah, they added functionality where you can choose to boot the disc drive or the phoebe/rhea menu in the Psuedo menu. The menu inside Kai is a bit faster is all. The main reason I use Kai though is for the pre programmed cheat database.

It looks really good. How is the Framemeister at outputting to an older (2006) 768p display?

Probably not great if I had to guess unless the tv can show borders for native 720p content rather than stretching it to fill the screen.

720p into what TV at what native resolution? 4K?

Yeah, I guess it was a moot question! @matt has asked a better one - I can see the Framemeister being more essential when outputting at higher resolutions.

I took a shot of the memory card management screen off my HDTV (direct Input from Saturn) and it’s acceptable I think - though it would be nice to inject scanlines.

Your HDTV takes SCART I’m assuming? And it knows how to scale 240p correctly?

Pretty impressive stuff if so.

Yeah, using RGB Scart with the Saturn. There’s a pretty wide array of ports - 2x SCART, RF, S-Video, VGA, Component, Composite and HDMI!

It’s an old Bravia from 2006 but it’s the kind of thing that you just can’t get any more - a high end small (20"!) HDTV with a wide array of compatible inputs and very minimal post processing.

It’s still going strong 12 years on, and I’m surprised by how well it holds up today really. 8ms of latency regardless of input source isn’t too shabby given its age and the LCD tech, and the 1200:1 contrast ratio is still great. It’s an IPS panel too - so the viewing angles have always been great. And Sony put in a large strip of speakers beneath the screen so even audio is well handled without the need for externals.

It’s a shame you just can’t get something like this any more (though the preowned prices for this set are peanuts), like with most electronics these days the perception that small should be cheap pervaded with TVs but I’m glad Sony took a risk and made a high quality set of this size category back then!

I’m rocking a 32’ Bravia from that time as well. Incredible picture quality.

I’m really chuffed with my model 2 (HST-0019) Saturn. It not having yellowed yet is great, of course, but I just mean the hardware in general.

Despite being a hardware revision it exudes quality in its construction and it’s certainly still got plenty of character with its design language. I like the embossed text near the controller ports, the return of the disc window, and the colour coding between the controller’s purple triggers/start button and the open button on the console is delightful.

Also it runs really quiet, even the disc drive is almost inaudible the whole time. Quite a feat for a disc-based system and it makes it as enjoyable to switch on as the N64.

It’s great stuff, really happy Sony cared to support the old inputs so well too.

What is the model of your TV ?

Started Panzer Dragoon Saga last night using the Phoebe, really impressed with the game so far!

Sony KDL-20S2020 I think. You could get it in either black or silver.

Edit: might be the KDL-20S2030 - I’ll double check the unit

I’ve been looking for a KDL-20S2030 on your recommendation. Not sure if that slightly different number means much
