I was playing with the sharpness setting on my CRT (Magnavox 20MT1331/17) as all my other settings look good. I was using SMB as my adjustment screen (because I’ve played it so much and it’s colorful). And I took pictures of the sharpness on different settings the first one is at 100, then 75, then 50, then 25, then 20, then 15, then the last 2 are at 0. I’ve read that most people recommend 15-25% (that’s why i didn’t 15, 20, and 25). You can clearly see the ringing around Mario on the 100.
What is the sharpening actually doing? And what is the optimal setting for sharpness for NES? Is it 0? I tried my Wii and I had to turn the sharpness up because it was very blurry, but for NES I don’t really know if it matters that much due to the more simplistic graphics.
