This is how my 3DS ended up after the shop closed. Should be sorted for Picross content for the next 10 years. Still plugging away at Pokémon Picross with 40 hours clocked and being not even close to tapping out on content.

Very few will have done this I’d imagine. I’d be guessing a couple/few hundred grand of sales worldwide total.

Huh? Everything around this event I saw on social, in forums including this one, and friends calling me, was people panic buying dozens of games.
Some people had missed the memo a year ago, and both deadlines, and we’re trying to transfer funds from their Switch.
I think you’re under-estimating the financial impact of this event.
But if you go from forum posts and social media, Metroid appears to be Nintendo’s equal biggest franchise.
Surely only a tiny fraction of the 13 million Wii U owners are regular forum posters or video game posters on twitter etc. Even smaller for 3DS. All few hundred/thousand of them making noise may look big, but by comparison probably a hundred times more people bought DLC for Fifa 2023 in the last week.
No way to know for sure though.
