I would hope. It would surely have fewer features but if it’s just an NES version of the more recent design approach then that’s good enough for me. And I will longer than a 10 minute window to order one.

I’m definitely on the fence. I love the idea of the Nt Mini, but my NES collection is small, and my interest in really digging in is only recently growing. As noted above though, it’s not like it’ll lose value unless they really do come out with a version later that’s cheaper with similar functionality (even through a Famicom adapter).
This is pre-orders so they are just gauging to see how much they need to order from the factory.

So… I think I’m done with Analogue consoles. MiSTer does everything except use real carts. Thats less important to me as i mainly use Everdrives with analogue machines and i use both real carts and EDs with my real hardware.
The experience of retro doesn’t really ring true with analogue and based on some of the stuff artemio has been doing the analogue consoles arent that accurate after all. Hate to shit on everyone’s party but as someone who’s owned every analogue console save the neo geo i think I’m out.

I know I’m speaking from a place of privilege, but I’m with you. It helps that I own all my old systems along with an ossc that I can play any real carts I want on so don’t have the need for their consoles. I’m more likely to get a novelty “mini” console that is clearly inferior if I want something convenient to move around.
If I didn’t already have all of the gear it would be very appealing though. Still wish RGB was just part of the systems and not from a separate device but whatever, better than not at all. Also super happy for this as an option for the future.

How so? Retro games on hardware that isnt official? Mister is very, very easy to set up. I would say this is the exact audience that cares about other ways to play games in an accurate way without playing on original hardware.
Very very easy to setup seems to be a different thing than just “i plug it into my tv and it works”. Both mini consoles and analogue’s stuff have that appeal going for them.
Don’t know if it being official or not is the end all be all as I’m one of the people playing on original hardware yet I don’t mind piracy/unofficial.
I think it mostly boils down to time and convenience. People will pay a lot for convenience and a good result. The mister is super cool but you have to be willing not just to spend the time setting it up but the energy to learn how.
I think both are cool and they both exist to fulfill different people’s needs/wants.

Analogue consoles also play real carts. There are plenty of people that put more stock into that than anything else, as witnessed by the existence of the retrode or retron 5.

The MiSTer is about as difficult to set up as putting firmware update in for an Analogue Console. Adding Roms is exactly the same as using an Evedrive. I refuse to believe that either of these are confusing to the majority of people at all at this point.
Its literally one of the easiest thing I have ever setup since it does practically everything itself once you connect it to wifi (save copying roms). Its not like raspberry pi builds or hacking a console. You can be playing within 5 minutes. The only thing that takes a long time is if you are dumping large rom sets instead of a handful of favorites.
I will accept this argument as probably the most valid.
For me, I am 100% about ODE’s, Everdrives & MiSTer these days. I really don’t have anymore desire to grow a collection to the point I need a dedicated room. I love owning my favorite games but the collecting creep was strong with me and I was buying so many games that I didn’t even care about just to grow my collection and play stuff people say is good or interesting.
Nothing will replace the carts and consoles I lost, traded or sold over the years so that piece of nostalgia is gone. I will say this. I dumped a lot of my save files from SNES and GB & GBA and this has made those memories live on. I finally felt ownership of the file I had since I ripped it and converted the save to work. Seeing my high school girlfriend’s name on a save game was pretty funny.

You are correct. But that doesn’t change the fact that I’ve seen people’s eyes glaze over when they learn about MiSTer, No matter how easy it is it still can seem foreign and fiddly when compared to something that Analogue is selling.
As an enthusiast I’ve gotten use to this kind of thing. It taking real carts is one thing, it looking/feeling like a commercial product is another. That the MiSTer looks like you it is from the weird section of radio shack is enough of a turn off to a lot of people that pay money for these things.
I think someone on twitter said it best. Analogue is a car you buy and mister is a hot rod and you can do as much or as little to it. I’m a huge fan and honestly the support from analogue has been so iffy that i went from an Analogue fan boy to basically trying to decide if even will pull the trigger for the pocket.
From my experience the biggest obstacle to MiSTer is more in researching and purchasing the hardware than software setup. If you compare it to the Pi or an Analouge console where you only really need to buy one piece of kit (aside from accessories like a controller for the Pi), the MiSTer can be a bit convoluted to figure out and purchase what you want. Of course the MiSTer is more capable and offers more specialized features for what you’re buying it for as well.
Most folks, even enthusiasts, are used to just buying a couple pieces on Amazon or some other slick website and things working after a couple steps.
If MiSTer was a monolithic product it would be way more popular right now (not saying it should be).

For me it’s also using OG controllers and cartridges. Sure there is the blister stuff, but getting the I/O and all the cables starts jacking the price up fast.
I get the appeal of MiSTer, I do, and when more arcade cores get released (specially the cave ones) I’ll probably pick one up. Though for that exactly arcade cores.

Yeah for me the most important thing after accuracy has to be “original” controllers. Even on my RetroArch PC I have a bunch of USB controllers and/or adapters.
Repro/modern controllers are OK, but original with a ton of cables is preferable. But it all adds up and at that point you wonder “why am I doing this again?”
I agree. The most important aspect for me are good OEM controllers, and CRT.
