It’s cool… but only one player on the device natively kinda ruins it for me. I understand why they made that compromise with the controller ports, but at that point, may as well just use a supergun.

I think it’s a great compromise myself. Having two arcade sicks would make this at least candy cab size.

Amazing collections in this post!

Neo Geo was a huge deal in Mexico back in the 90s that is the MVS since AES was impossible to see. Even at this day you can still find drug stores, candy stores or just small shops with bootleg MVS carts running on old cabinets.

Anyway I started collecting using a consolized MVS about 5 years ago, here is a photo of it:

then I got the Neo Geo CDs which are also great, here are some pics of my collection

I bought shockboxes for my MVS carts, they look really good and also I won a Yahoo JP auction for an AES with the ā€œcheapā€ cartdriges let’s say

and to finish here is a raspberry PI inside a Neo Geo X case which is also ok for quick matches when my friends are around and we want to try out games I do not have on cart

cheers!

Any Neo Geo AES collectors in the NYC Metro area. Brooklyn video games just bought a huge collection.

They may have online ordering too. idk.

What a haul!

There are some serious gems in there including Viewpoint and Top Hunter, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen in person anywhere. If I didn’t have Viewpoint on CD now, I’d give them a call!

They have the original Metal Slug on AES

Always a little sad when I see stuff like that, but that’s just because I’m only seeing it from my perspective.

I remembered you haha. I know you’re not too far in PA. Don’t cash out that 401k lol.

Lol! It’s crazy what some of these carts go for now. I could have gotten Viewpoint for $250 just five years ago. Now it’s up to $1000 on ebay. I imagine they’ll try to get that for it at this store.

I love my AES. I have lots of regrets not keeping things for it when I got my first one many years ago and that fuels my keeping everything nowadays!

as an update: still working on a local guy to mod my AES, think i may have someone next payhceck or so. i now have 2 sticks, my only remaining issue is selling a kidney for a neo SD+!
honestly thinking of trading up my XRGB mini towards one somehow

*edit late here but jesus christ @ pacocyborg i was not ready for those, phewwww

Can someone point me to an Aliexpress neogeo SCART cable? Searching for the usual keywords aren’t showing any results.

Hey everyone, I have a question for you.

A little background of where I’m coming from here, before I ask my question:

  • I’ve collected pretty much all the consoles that I’m truly interested in, and there are only a few of the rare outliers that I am debating over. Maybe Odyssey 2 or Neo Geo. Everything else that’s considered rare or a small library, I don’t really care to go after (Jaguar, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Odyssey 1, Virtual Boy, 32x etc.)
  • I am at the point now with my collection that I either stop bothering to buy consoles, or start shelling out a ton of money.
  • I would like to set up an old PC as a dedicated emulation box, hooked up to my CRT with an older AMD GPU and CRT Emudriver. That way I can enjoy those other oddball consoles if I like without having to get the systems.

So, when it comes to Neo Geo, it falls right in the middle of the ā€œis it worth actually getting one, or notā€? category.

So let’s talk about getting into Neo Geo.

As far as I know, there are three ways to get into the library through official hardware.

  1. Consolized MVS

    • Largest library, actual arcade hardware
    • Cheap to buy the MVS board, but can be pricey to get all the bits you need to have it run as a console at home.
    • Flash cart NeoSD MVS is very expensive.
    • Multi-game carts exist, but they are cheap pre-loaded ones with 131, 138, 161 etc games that are not the full library.
  2. AES

    • Medium size library, but the home ports are often a little more suited to home-style gaming instead of quarter munching.
    • Very expensive to buy, very expensive to collect for.
    • Flash cart NeoSD AES is very expensive.
  3. Neo Geo CD

    • Smallest library, CD home ports also can offer some differences than the AES and MVS
    • Cheaper than the AES to buy, cheaper to collect for.
    • NeoGeo SD Loader is a good solution that would be much cheaper than the flash cart for the

What do you think the best way for me to get into NeoGeo would be? Any of the official hardware routes, or just stick to emulation with a dedicated PC that will do other consoles as well for me?

MVS is the only reasonable option for the legit route these days in my humble opinion.

AES is cray cray.

I went with an AES a small collection of Jpn carts - and then a flash cart - done. Good enough.

I have a decent AES collection, but some of the best games are just out of reach, and I’ve been more likely to pay upwards of $100 for some other systems recently depending on condition.

I can’t recommend it, but I can also tell you there is NOTHING like the Neo Geo AES. No system comes close IMO once you have it in your hands. Everything about it screams arcade luxury.
