Nintendo Wii Appreciation/Collectors Thread

And of course some footage of #MaBoShi Circle game - the GOAT

Circle really is a great game isn’t it? I was obsessed with it for months and beat it like 2 times total.

It is.

I’ve never beat it on Wii, that’s my current goal. I also want to unlock the Credits on Wii.

I mostly play Circle on the DS version (beat that 5 times, I think)

I only really played the Wii version. I never invested much time into the DS download version but I do love how novel it is. The 8 bit de-make feel is so charming.

Interested to hear what you managed to unlock in the Wii version? I think it’s mostly different background graphics, maybe extra music, and the credits?

Just different backgrounds if I recall correctly. I don’t remember extra music or credits at all.

We (weekly gaming night meetup) have been playing Wii Play: Motion lately.

For whatever reason (bundled with Wii Motion Plus controller?) is not a well known game. It contains just one game by Nintendo with the rest being made by other notable Japanese developers including Arzest, Good-Feel, Chunsoft, Skip and Mitchell Corp.

It’s about half filler, but it has some great games if you can stick it for an hour to unlock the 12 main games. Stone Skipping and Umbrella Racing stand out for me.

Plus two hidden minigames that I only found out about yesterday! Need to unlock those.

Castlemania games restocked their Wii HD Retrovision cables! I just placed my order. Really looking forward to seeing how it looks on my 20L2.

Interested to see the difference!

24 player Mario Kart Wii is in beta.

Eureka!

I know it’s not much, but it’s okay. We’ll keep on movin’ on anyway

I’m not sure if this has been discussed here, but I’ve been reading about certain Wii models having blurry picture quality. It seems to affect launch models, which I have and I always questioned it’s picture quality years before I came across this information. Apparently 25th Anniversary models have improved picture quality. More sharper, clearer, and focused. After finding a 25th Anniversary model and comparing the two, it seems to be true that launch and any other model before November 2010 has the weakest picture quality of them all.

I have a 25th anniversary model and it’s super clean via component.

Another Wii discovery…

Last night playing TrackMania my Wiimote Motion Plus battery ran out. I switched to an original Wii Remote.

WOW the game is so much easier with the older wiimote. I guess it’s due to the “less sensitive” gyro in it? It means the cars are so much less twitchy.

I then tried Kororinpa and BOOM less twitchy and easier. Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz BOOM - same - much less twitchy and easier.

Really interesting. Makes complete sense that the games would be calibrated to the standard of the time, though.

Going to try to capture the difference.

Bizarre. Never owned the original Wii Remote. I got a Wii after motion plus was already standard. I’m interested to see the comparison.

There’s some homebrew that shows realtime visual representation of the sensors in Wii remotes. I’ll look into that.
