This has some Omega Race vibes, with the scoreboard in the middle of the play field.. in a different universe where the “race” in the title was taken seriously.

ICARUS started out as a kamikaze game where you had to dive bomb towards the bottom of the screen and turn away at the last moment. But that wasn’t fun enough, so it evolved: I removed gravity and involved all four sides of the screen screen.
I first saw and played Omega Race at Arcade Club in the UK back in March 2023, so I guess by October 2023 I had fully internalised it into my gaming DNA.
It’s interesting to make the comparison because I’d not though about Omega Race again until now!
