It has the hardware and gets system updates over wifi.
It has bluetooth also.
Hopefully games can access those before launch.

Forgot to update that I have added skid marks and collidable obstacles.
I have redone the collision/rebound physics, and car visual and steering is now affected when colliding - makes collisions feel really physical.
Tyres and Cones have different collision properties so they feel different.
I have checkpoints and laps working in the earlier demo so I will bring these in and get some gameplay going.
Bonus! 3D render
“Daily Driver”
Everything is placeholder right now, but getting a nice vibe. It is really fun just controlling the car, whizzing around and knocking into things.
That looks great!
Neat. Do you have an itch page for any other projects you’ve done?
Only one game! And a million unfinished.

Here’s a little Pang for pico8
Love the physics programming!

Rocket League, eat your heart out!
Does Playdate have any multiplayer capability?
Not currently.
Technically it has bluetooth and wifi.
But, as of today, the SDK doesn’t have any mechanism to use those in your game.
However, in the future it should allow it.
That’s good news. Peltz mentioning Rocket League made me think of how cool a car hockey 2v2 game mode would be

Cool!
I’m mostly 2D right now, though I do add height (bouncing) when hitting objects and driving off road. More work needed on that from me to be able to have driving under bouncing balls.
yeah boy!
also was told today about a sport called Autotesting, which is exactly the vibe I am going for. But with a big dollop of sillyness and retro-gaming references on top.
Nice! Most people in the US refer to it as autocross.
Yes that’s really interesting!
Motorsport Australia take theirs really seriously, and have some wonderful publications of the rules, regs, and course layouts.
BIG day today
After recent optimisations my game is running at 60fps!
This is notable for two reasons:
Of course, the higher the framerate the more resonsive controls and it now feels like a dream to play. It was good before, but this is just
Will strive to keep framerate high, but plan B is to drop it back to 50fps if I need to as I add more stuff into the main loop of the game.
Apparently they ported Doom to it already.
Really hope I could try the device soon
