PlayStation Portable |OT| EVERYWHERE JUST GOT BETTER!

Had no idea this existing, and they did the sequel too! Two more for the wantlist :open_mouth:

Are you playing the translation of the PSP version?

Just the Japanese digital version. I think it was Japan-only?

Sorry I meant fan translation

Ah, wasn’t aware of this, that is cool that the PSP version is playable in English, it’s a very faithful port of the international PS2 version.

Got two endings today, ending 1 (what seems to be the “best” ending) and ending 2. I’m satisfied.

Here’s some comparison shots against PS2:

I’m surprised by how well the lighting has made the transition, speaks volumes for the quality of the artwork.

Character models retain high quality textures, it’s pretty great how easily you can make out faces from a distance:

There is now a drop-in replacement IPS screen for the PSP 1000!

I was never really upset with the quality of my original PSP when I played it, but looking at it now it does smear and ghost quite a lot. For the price of these screens and the ease of install, this might be worth looking at.

Another option for purchase here:

To be fair though, this guy says he doesn’t think it’s worth it.

The ghosting on the PSP-1000 is pretty bad depending on the game, that seems to be the real upgrade if it’s significantly reduced.

But to be honest unless it has the same colour gamut (57% of sRGB coverage) it’s going to look oversaturated with earlier games without an option to revert back like with the PSP-3000

I was disappointed in Makho’s vid on this, I wish he had articulated a bit more on why he didn’t think it was worth it other than ‘Vita OLED’. If it’s the exact same res then it should have the LCD grid which I’m a fan of. If there’s less blur than the 2000 and no 3000 flickering that should be a big plus too. I’ve been meaning to pick up a 1000 to try this, you going to try this @raskulous?

The ‘500’ version of this IPS screen doesn’t look too bad in terms of saturation although it’s not always easy to judge with off-screen footage. The video description says it “outshines all other PSP models now”

I’d be up for it because my PSP 1000 has had a dead pixel or two since it was almost new.

I was debating it, but I don’t think I will.

My original PSP 1000 is in perfect condition, and I have a 3000, Go, and Vita. It just doesn’t seem like I need it, as I have lots of good options to play the PSP of I feel so inclined.

Yeah, if you’ve got the other models of PSP, and the Vita, then it’s best to keep the 1000 as is - there’s a simple charm in playing launch window games on the old 1000, almost like you’ve been transported back to the mid 2000s. I wouldn’t want to lose that on my launch PSP-1000!

On the other hand, the 1000 is the best feeling version of the PSP to hold, so I can understand why people would want a better screen on it.

For sure… it’s the best form factor easily.

I love the 1000 form factor but that screen is ROUGH.

I can see why people prefer the shape of the 1000, but the flat D-Pad and irregular button switches (the square button is particularly bad) provide negative thumb comfort.

The Monster Hunter Tri PSP-3000 probably provides the best of both worlds if you prefer the extra thickness of the 1000, but the much improved face buttons and D-Pad. The thicker ‘grips’ on each side also mean you can use the extended battery with it which is great.

I wonder if a more power efficient and modern panel would boost the PSP-1000’s battery life?

I actually prefer the form factor of the 3000 over the 1000. The dpad is so much better as well as @harborline_765 mentioned. However, I recently sold my 3000 and my 1000 battery bulged out. Thankfully I bought a couple OEM replacements when they started to end production back in the day. I haven’t cycled them so no idea if they hold charge or not. I guess I’ll see one day. I have one dead pixel on my 1000 so maybe I’ll eventually do a screen replacement.

I love the PSP, it got me through a long year of work where I was flying twice a week. PSP at the airport and on flights was a serious mental win for me, lol. That said, PSP emulation with a dualshock (so no PSP nub) almost surpasses the OG experience for me. There are a couple games that have issues I’ve noticed, but the up-scaling and lack of ghosting looks so much better. The lack of HD assets is an acceptable loss for me. HD assets created by the community go a long way. CC:FF7 is the only one I know of. I haven’t looked into it extensively.

Does anyone know what video-out options were available for the slim PSP units (3000 specifically)?

I’m not sure if it’s because nothing got an official release in Europe, but the only cables I can find are ones for the PSP go, nothing for previous models, not even SKU numbers or anything.

Edit: nevermind! According to this manual page they even released an S-Video cable: For PSP-3000/N1000 series systems

And that’s something I could actually find - it was released as PSP-S160.
