So I finally put the finishing touches on DKC3 (some of the bonus levels in Krematoa gave me a bit of grief) and while it doesn’t reach the heights of DKC2 it is an excellent game - and far superior to DKC1.
I’m on a bit of a platformer kick at the moment so I think I’ll move on to SMW which I have (shamefully) never completed 100%.
I think the OST is much better in DKC but the level design is middling to awful. DKC3 has too many gimmick stages but at its core has some really clever level design.
It’s been a while, but I remember 3 feeling disjointed and a lot of important elements seemed tacked on. It really made me question if it was actually a Nintendo produced game.
I’m not trying to convince anyone to change their mind, but DKC1 is far from middling. I have yet to play any game past the SNES ones, but I’ve heard they’re excellent also.
This is the first time I’ve heard of there being distinct routes through the game! And like @Peltz I haven’t kept track of how many times I played through it, 3DS remake included.
Finally! Vs Super Mario Bros really did feel like a quest you conquer compared with just content you play through, which is par for the course for games of the era. Nintendo’s always kept that feeling alive with the extra worlds in modern Mario, hopefully 3D World’s new content on the Switch is no different.
So glad you enjoyed this suggestion! I pulled it back out last night and it just doesn’t feel quite right to me playing with the SF30 Pro controller. I need to get those NES controllers…
I’ve got my NES Classic Mini controllers with the 8bitdo DIY bluetooth boards installed and they work great with my Switch. They’re probably an easier option if you already have the mini console.
Yeah - like @tomwhite2004 posted the problem isn’t so much that there is lag its the fact that it varies so much that is the problem.
I think its less likely to be an issue with the Switch given the baked in latency in NES and SNES Online but it has definitely tripped me up on real hardware.
Ray Tracers is a fun romp. While it’s lacking in depth it still impresses with its presentation, which is a surprisingly good match for the mid-90s CGI cutscenes.
FInished my new playthrough of Super Mario 64, it still impresses me how much variety the game has to offer in each new playthrough. I deliberately went for the most challenging stars, while also trying to obtain those stars before you’re ‘meant’ to.
Finally finished Gunstar Heroes, I couldn’t clear stage 5 many years ago, but I pushed through again.
What impressed me the most about the game was how dynamic the melee attacks were, your increased movement ended up being integral to succeeding against later bosses and attacks, and it all just feels fantastic to pull off, especially when the game reaches its climax during the final battle against Green.
Playing on Wii U, first time getting 3 star rank on all the courses! My actual cart has this unfinished from around release time. Back then the common belief was you just needed to finish 1st in all the races and get 150 coins I think? While that helps the actual requirements are quite a bit more involved! There’s a guide on gamefaqs from only a few years ago where someone figured out everything it takes into account. Knowing that, it wasn’t nearly as difficult as I previously thought.
