Just when I thought I had a pretty good grip on Asian exclusive PS3 physical releases with English, someone goes and mentions “Motorstorm Complete” on a thread I was posting on. Looking into it, apparently there is a EUR release too, though I’ve only seen it on a single reddit post, nowhere else.
Anyone got this release? The play-asia pages for it make it sound like the Japanese version doesn’t have English, while the Asian versions do. I’ve gone and purchased an Asian release, so i’ll be able to report back on that when it eventually arrives.
Another game I never knew existed - “Everybody’s Putter Golf With Toro” for PlayStation 3! There’s an English version on the Taiwan PSN Store. Doesn’t seem like it came any further West than that, weird as it was already localised.
Is there an online source for Xbox 360 cases with 4 disc spindles? I have a Canadian copy of Lost Odyssey, which shipped with 3 discs in the spindle and the fourth disc separately in an envelope. This is kinda janky and I’m wondering if I can replace it with anything a little more durable.
Unexpectedly spent a couple of hours with Noby Noby Boy today, it’s as unpredictable as it was a decade ago!
After much messing around with new levels the game decided to spit me out on to what seems like Mappy Island. No sign of Nyamco, though, guess he got spooked away.
Critically, this does not mean they will no longer be for sale, you’d just have to use the on-console UIs. Trouble is for PS3 that UI is a slow mess and on Vita it’s missing some games and hasn’t been updated in forever.
I suspect the days are numbered for the PS3/Vita on-console stores as well, and discounts haven’t really been happening on PS3 / PS2 / PS1 stuff for a couple years.
So I’ve taken some time to go through and find some last purchases.
For PS3, I went ahead and picked up Soul Calibur 2 HD Online, Echochrome, and Echochrome 2. Because I’m fascinated by how they even pulled it off, I also picked up some PS2 Classics for PS3 – Suikoden 3, Contra: Shattered Soldier, Shinobi, and La Pucelle: Tactics.
I’ve been in a mood to turn my PSPgo into more of a digital PSone microconsole, and because it’s kinda dependant on PS3 for official stuff at this point on the PSone Classics side I picked Arc the Lad 1,2,3, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, Threads of Fate, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, and have my eye on a few more
Anyone else in a simialr situation? Curious to hear what others are grabbing.
Managed to get this beautiful limited edition One Piece Pirate Warriors PS3 from Amazon Japan in like new condition for a mere 8000 yen + reasonable shipping. Think that was a steal. Slapped a 1TB SSD in it, duplicated all my existing games, and bought some new ones.
Don’t have a photo on hand but my original PS3 was a 2013 white US region SuperSlim, originally came with a 500GB hard drive and is currently slumming it with a 1TB HDD. Gonna have to get an SSD in there at some point as prices continue to fall.
Funny quirks of JP PS3s: only JP region PS1 disc games will work, and the DVD playback is region 2. Otherwise it’s a very region free system.
Man it’s going to be a sad day when all of that content is taken offline. Microsoft is the only one who I have faith in to keep their content up from that gen.
But! It is nice to have a reason to keep PS3s hooked up.
Of the 360 games I own only a handful are not back compat, and only one game I don’t have a copy to play elsewhere. Reluctantly left out my 360 when moving my console setup to another room because it just isn’t needed.
But preservationists got there in time and it was all safely preserved.
So I’d be surprised if there weren’t already efforts in place to preserve the contents of the PS store.
The beauty of this is that they can even preserve items that were “removed” from the store at some point. I’m thinking all those PSminis games (removed as they were CFW hacking entry points), GTi Club+ and versions of Out Run (removed because licensing), and so on.
I find it difficult remembering this stuff even exists on PS3. I really need a list of PSN exclusives to dig through, been tempted to build it myself lately, scrapping data from the stores in each region.
FWIW, Echochrome 2 has a physical release in Asia with English.
PSP wise, I put together this list of digital titles to buy: Brandish: The Dark Revenant, Motorstorm RC, Black Rock Shooter, ClaDun: This is an RPG + Sequel, Cho Aniki Zero, Crystal Defenders & THEXDER NEO. Several of them have physical releases in Japan though, so i’ll likely grab those instead.
It’s worth mentioning there are a lot of things that aren’t neccesarily exclusives that you might want to get on PS3. There are a lot of cases of well it’s available on PS2 but the PS3 version has a lot to like, or the 360 version exists but maybe you’d prefer to play this on PS3 because it’s easier to connect an arcade stick, or hey this is also on vita but maybe you’d prefer the console version. Adding up all that stuff it easily became a few dozen games for me.
Consider ICO: it’s on PS2 of course but the PS3 version is really well done widescreen/hd, never made it to PS4.
Offtopic but speaking of “I didn’t even remember that existed,” presenting Echoshift, the PSP only followup to Echochrome:
Unfortunately Sony has given such little notice that I haven’t yet made time to trawl through the long list of Japan-only PS Classics and PSP releases that I want. Annoying!
I’m worried by the PSP’s increased dependence on the PS3. You need one to download, copy and activate games, and now you’ll need one to buy games from the store. But going from the Vita’s built-in store I doubt all PSP games are even listed - there were late releases which never made it to the console store (presumably due to poor maintenance by staff), and were only visible on the web store.
At some point I will figure out which Japan-only PS Classics and PSP games I still want, I’m just worried I’ll be in for a shock when I load up the PS3 store and they don’t show up.
