Yeah, I didn’t really like the direction racing games took with them mostly turning to massive campaigns or the type where you open world drive to the next race location…
I’m okay for the most part with single player games being one-and-done. For replayability I usually stick to multiplayer online games, and for single player I play through once and seek out a new adventure.
I feel like there are far too many games to get to in my lifetime, so I would like to focus on new experiences more than replaying ones I’ve already finished.
It’s a good thing I got a 1TB hard drive for my PS3 as I put 12 games on there that I ripped from the disc installed to the hard drive and it took up 100GB, heck one game I had was 22GB! I used to have a 240GB too and it would had be awful so the 1TB helps with that.
I now have 64 PS3 games and 84 Xbox 360 games with plans to get more, heck I should get 90 360 games soon and 100 later this year along with a possible 70 PS3 games as well.
Not exactly an arcade racer, but I think a lot of people slept on Motorstorm RC. Though it does have some variation in event types, it’s a brilliant game for time trial that you can quickly get into.
The default controls which use both analogs to simulate a real life RC controller may not be to everyone’s liking, but when you get to grips with them, it has has a really good feeling, especially the fastest cars. You can change the accel/brake to be on buttons if you don’t like it too.
Yeah I think it’s probably highly contextual on genre. The number of established developers making racing games has fallen off a cliff since the last decade, so it’s a genre that I’m more likely to revisit old titles to get my kicks out of. Whereas for RPGs I’m unlikely to go back to such long games so them largely being ‘one and done’ doesn’t matter nearly as much.
I redownloaded this one on PS3 after the store was announced to be shuttered. Only previously played it at Vita launch. Was really surprised to find it’s one of the few games where cross-save ‘just works’, I started the game and all my progress from Vita was logged in. It’s definitely a fun one for picking up and playing for sure.
I really cherish those last games before things changed, returning to Sega Rally (Saturn and Arcade PS2 port), F Zero X, 1080 Snowboarding and Wave Race 64 recently was amazing coming from the modern grindfests.
Will be interesting to see if Nintendo sticks with the simple Grand Prix structure in Mario Kart 9 or not. Always liked how they didn’t diverge from that but I just can’t see it staying in 2021 (2022?)
That definitely piqued my interest when the first trailer dropped for it. It’s like the perfect melding of Hot Wheels and videogames from what I can see so far. Fingers crossed.
I can’t remember when it was exactly, but I do recall the origins of your avatar image. It was from a Gamespot article of some sort wasn’t it? I think he even got a thread on gaf at the time! Must be over 15 years ago…
It’s my Internet claim to fame. It was in a Gamespot ad for some kind of event where they invited you to THROW DOWN! and that dude led off the ad. I posted threads at GAF and Qt3 and claimed it as my avatar and the rest is history.
I’ve since switched my avatar at Qt3 to one of my favorite Baseball Stars 2 moments. I won’t change it here or at Resetera though.
My Wii is in storage at the moment but I did last week transfer Excite Truck to the “quick access” pile of Wii titles along with other games I love revisiting for a quick bash.
