I’ve updated the website with the new game, we must destroy Parasitis! Let’s play an old-school horror-themed shooter for Halloween!

RULES

1. Competitions last two weeks, and close @ midnight on the final day.
2. Post screenshots in this thread as proof.
3. The winner from the previous competition chooses the next game to play.
4. You cannot choose twice in a row. 2nd place will choose if someone wins twice in a row.
5. If there’s a tie, the person that submitted the high score first gets to choose.
6. Games must be high score compatible (think “arcade style scores” like Pac-Man, or Spy Hunter, not Super Mario).
7. Emulation is okay (MAME is often the best for high scores).
8. No save state manipulation (pausing to take a break is fine though).
9. Submit scores as soon as you get them! To keep the competition rolling and fair, do not hold on until the last moment to submit.

Points will be awarded for the entrants, based on the position finished. This is to encourage wider participation, and the points will be posted on the website after each battle is complete.

Overall, we should keep it simple. This is just a good time, not a crazy official high score competition! Game plays should ideally be short and fun so people that can’t invest hours into this can still compete. Obviously we are working on a trust based system here, so don’t ruin it for the others!

Definitely not the most amazing shooter, nor the most advanced.. but I wanted to choose something for Halloween that’s horror themed, and not Splatterhouse or a light gun game.

The combo of horizontal and vertical stages reminds me of Life Force.

Hope everyone enjoys, the barrier to enter this one is super easy, and I would guess that many of you have this cart for your NES lying around. Of course emulation is also welcome.

One quick note about this game: It doesn’t seem to have a high score table that shows, and after your game is complete, it disappears. You’ll have to take care to catch your high score!

I suggest recording with your phone, or screen recording software (if emulating) so you can pull a screenshot of the score.

I have a little phone tripod thing that I have used in the past to record CRT gameplay, so I’ll set that up and record my attempts.

Here’s my first score.. there’s a nasty choke point in stage 2. If you die, trying to get past the 4 shooting things on the wall with no speed is really difficult.

Not exactly sure how i am supposed to take image of high score on this game as at game over there is no show of score anymore.

Yeah it’s a pain, see my note above. I just set up my phone to record the CRT so I can grab the frames after I die, but before it resets.

Oversight on my part, but not a big deal to set up.

Yup that’s fine for this one, that’s exactly what I had to do. Odd that they would implement a scoring system, then not care at all about displaying it for even a moment after the game ends lol.

Wait, so your score increased after you died? Because of flying bullets from your ship?

Can’t say I’ve seen that on my games yet.
