RGB Pick Up Thread Of Swag!

Also had to get one of these before I could use the Twin to avoid frying it due to regional voltage differences? First I ever heard of this but I wasn’t taking any chances.

Also, I had no idea until now that the Famicom version of Bubble Bobble was a disk game! Wonder if it had any enhancements over the cart/U.S. version?

Ha! Thanks! I think I’ve been pretty lucky over the years. I try to keep stuff in the same condition I get it too.

One thing I do now that I never did before though is I often open up my carts to make sure they’re legit. I talked to the fellow at Just Press Play where I bought the World of Illusion and he said they get more than ever now. He did say that most people coming in with them are simply duped. They have no idea they bought a fake. That sucks.

Now that my kids are all heading to college or elsewhere, it’s time to play more stuff that I’ve collected but I’m always on the hunt. I’m really lucky to have so many quality retro stores relatively close to me. When I travel I look for them, too.

I started opening stuff to check like 2-3 years ago but I think I have the benefit of most of the stuff I’ve been picking up is more nostalgia of things I played when I was little or wanted to play and not necessarily something worth anything of value. No one seems to care enough to bootleg vectorman or desert demolition or THPS for N64 or one of the other games I’ve played a thousand times as a kid. But yeah anything of moderate value it seems like you have to check now since there’s so many repros floating around now.

It’s pretty much identical.

I love the twins box. I’d also pickup the FDSStick and save the wear on the drive.

got this for a buck fitty

no idear if it’s good lol, but last year I visited Belgium and Tintin pretty much runs that country.

I figured it was worth the pickup just to honor my vacation from last year :stuck_out_tongue:

I should probably watch the movie too one day…

Got a US version of 19XX in the mail today. It arrived dead because the battery had popped out of the holder in shipment. I was able to revive it with an infinikey. I finally have an arcade shmup to play!

Some pickups from the past few weeks. I also grabbed Shinobido on PS2, which isn’t photographed, but it was a cheap review “promo” copy so not much of note to see anyway!

Really like the Baroque case - the inside has multi-page translucent laminate overlaid over the front cover to create a hazy effect. Managed to source a sealed copy of VP2.

I picked up a Hori Rap Hayabusa. Swapped out the ball for a smoky clear one and changed the square joystick gate to an octagonal one.

In the future I’ll be adding a DB15 port for use with my H.A.S supergun.

Nice grab! Baroque is a great game, the PS2 version is cool too but I feel like it lost a lot of the horror atmosphere from the first releases on the PS1/Saturn. I think the Saturn release is definitely my favorite of the bunch.

Got my first ever Saturn, and a haul of games from a recent trip to Tokyo!

Biggest splurge was Thunderforce IV, but I’m such a fan of the series I couldn’t say no to the copy on the shelf. I also held a copy of Radiant Silvergun IRL which was pretty cool, but the price was a bit too rich for me

Great haul. And nice to see BakuBaku Animal there! Seeing Soul Hackers makes me want to pick up the Saturn version just to compare it to the 3DS remake.

How much did Saturn Bomberman set you back by the way?

I was originally playing it on Wii but I dropped it for now. The difference in atmosphere and artwork is exactly why I picked it up on Saturn. I much prefer the 2D art over the 3D modelling in the remake, I think the main problem isn’t the models themselves but the rather flat lighting which particularly impacts character faces. Though the persistent, cloying depth of field effect on distant objects is superb - wasn’t expecting that in a Wii/PS2 game.

Picked up Ar Tonelico 2 because Gust’s modern output has been consistently poor.

What I wasn’t expecting was the flimsy case - I hadn’t realised late (2009) European PS2 games were made with lower quality, bendy plastics and lack the memory card slot.

There’s thick sticker residue on the cover at the upper right - does anyone have any good tips for dissolving it?

You can clean the box with alcohol but remove everything (the cover) before you work on it.

Thank you. Will keep that in mind.

Speaking of Ar Tonelico 2, I was gutted to find it’s a completely unoptimised 50hz conversion. Full size Black borders and it runs as slow as possible (I timed 72 seconds for a minute of in-game play time to pass, so it’s 16.666667% slower, or it takes 20% longer to do 60 frames).

Previous Gust game publishers Koei and 505 Games always made sure to either include 60hz or optimise 50hz, so NIS America really dropped the ball in what was one of their earliest European releases.

Latest pickup. Something to play alongside Shinobido.

I use Goo Gone and it works great.

I also recommend Goo Gone. Also on sticker residues with a lot of chunks/mass still left on what you are cleaning just leaving a drop of it on for a couple of minutes will completely loosen it and let you just wipe it off.

Of course take out all cover art and what not before cleaning in case some of it gets under the plastic, and wipe off again with some water to get the goo gone residue off as well.

A bit late here but are there any S-Video mods for the NES? That seems like it would improve color separation and maintain composite coloring.
