A new ODE for Saturn & DC (all versions)
Such a no brainer purchase. I already have a Phoebe so I picked it up for my Japanese VA0 DC - very excited.
Hurrah ! At last I can get one of these products for my Saturn ! So happy about this. I have a GDEmu but a Rhea or Phobe has eluded me for the last couple of years, I always miss the tiny window of opportunity. Wicked.
Somehow I had the opposite experience. Could never get a Gdemu. But now I have two phoebes. Just dumped one on eBay but itās practically worthless now.
Iām sure itās not worthless, they go for even more second hand, it will take a while for news of this mode to get out. Your Phoebe will more than pay for this Iāve just ordered !
Naturally they announce this a week after I order a GDEMU (clone). It looks fantastic though - but that price is pretty out there. Especially considering that for the Saturn you have a much cheaper alternative in the Fenrir which should be ramping production up this year. I also donāt see a lot of advantages outside of supporting SATA, USB and any model DC - although being able to use redump images is a definite plus over the TOSEC style dumps.
I suppose I can always upgrade later on - but from what Iāve read GDEMU support is pretty stellar so there may not be a huge reason for me to upgrade. As for the Saturn Iām waiting on the Satiator - itās an Aussie product so I have to support it!
Is this an alternative to GDEMU? Why is it worth the extra?
Yup, you were right. Someone just took it off my hands. For a decent price which more than covered the Mode.
I always seem to fall in that situation as well. On the bright side, the gdemu works great imo. I also have a clone.
Iām really looking forward to getting my mode. I know itās quite pricy but my reasoning was I will finally, definitely have one in my hands in the next couple of months and it appears to be a very professional solution, letās see. Iāve subconsciously not played many Saturn games through fear of the laser finally giving up so for me this will be like Xmas !
Having a saturn ODE IS like Xmas - when I finally got everything set up for my Pheobe and just started trying out all the games I always wanted to playā¦it was a lost weekend!
Brought me back the same feelings of figuring out how to use callus on my brothers 1990s computer back in the day and experiencing the CPS1 library in its entirety.
Cool, Iāve literally scratched the surface, I never had a Saturn growing up, only bought one a couple of years ago.
I have a Phoebe and a clone GDemu but am still on the fence about the MODE. It seems superior to both of those in every way, but I donāt know how I feel about swapping it out between consoles. With the cases unscrewed it probably only takes like a minute to do, but still!
Seems like a waste of money for you mate, you already have your solutions.
I agree that itās probably not worth it for you. Plus, I wouldnāt swap it between consoles like how youāre describing. I think itās better to opt for two rather than do that.
Sorry I failed to mention in my post selling my existing ODEās in exchange for the Mode on release. Either way I agree with you and Peltz itās probably more trouble than itās worth and Iād imagine would strain the ribbon on the Saturn after a while.
Oh in that case buy two then
Youāll still get decent money for the phoebe on eBay.
damn, these things are tempting - saturnās holding up fine, DC disc drive died years ago when my roommate was periously playing it close to the edge of our setup & a new kitten jumped on a wire, haha. i grabbed another disc drive & a had a friend toss it in, but the pots are off and certain games (giga wang, others) wonāt fully load now.
i realize adjusting said pots isnāt hard/costly but the idea of basically turning my systems into everdrives is pretty tempting down the road! do DC or saturn scenes have a lot of demos/fan stuff about like genesis/SNES do? beats of rage is some of the only ones im aware of, more like thatād push me over the edge.
I had already taken the bite and ordered the MODE.
As the Rhea/Phobe are a pain in the ass to get, the Fenrir nice but it only supports earlier model Saturns and does not support Multi-Disc games yet (and its sold out). The Satiator is not out yet, and to get any real info you have to go through a paywall (or find someone who a patron and willing to share their info). So far Terra Onion doing well on the ODE front, I see it as a multiple console ODE as something that just simplify stock.
