Sega Dreamcast |OT| It's Still Thinking

Curious to hear how this works out for you. FWIW, I’ve been incredibly pleased with how the DC looks on a CRT over svideo, so much so that I’ve stopped obsessively checking for the HDRetrovision component cables.

I have played some DC on the CRT through composite and I love it. I ordered an ODE for it recently, so while I’m waiting for that, I’m prepping the video on it.

The cheap cable I got from eBay probably won’t be here until sometime in Dec unfortunately. I’ll keep you posted about it, when I get it.

It should be a good time, I think there’s only a few games that complain about 480i.

Holly shit, that is crazy!

Really need to set up my GDEMU to play this.

That looks fun, and I love the rush games. I’ll have to try it out.

I tried it last night with my Serial SD card adapter.

It’s an interesting curiosity, but only for a moment.

You’re limited to 2 tracks per game - even if you win both it’s Game Over. The AI is really dumb, collisions are meaningless apart from head-on, and generally it’s not very difficult. I couldn’t find any shortcuts at all.

It’s a very bare-bones game and not very deep. In the arcade I’d walk away after one credit.

Looks pretty though!

I’ll try some other Atomiswave games soon.

They are a nice POC, but It crashes often, can’t remap buttons or even pause, its hard to get interested.

They’re arcade games.

You can remap buttons but it requires some tinkering.

I’ve only tried one, it didn’t crash.

But yeah, they’re not Shenmue.

Found out that both games that I was looking for (Dolphin Blue and Hokuto no Ken), both crash often, but they are the only problematic ones. But the team is working to make the ports work properly.

I’ve read in places that altering some settings on your GDEMU (if indeed that’s what you’re using) make them more stable. Personally I’m just going to keep an eye on them until all of the kinks are ironed out.

Still it’s pretty amazing to be getting new games for DC in 2020.

A patch for Fist of the North Star was made. Its now perfect. Check Dreamcast Talk Forum.

Noctua fan is a great upgrade IMO, so much quieter.

I still need to remove my 12v rail. It looks pretty straight forward:

That’s the guide I used to remove 12V.

Even though my Dreamcast is NTSC-U it’s had a PAL PSU for most of its life.

Will have to judge noctua fan tomorrow. I could still hear it tonight! But yes it’s quieter.

I still find this route of removing the 12v regulator dubious especially since 12v is used by several other things in a Dreamcast outside of GDROM such as the G2 bus that powers the slot used for BBA/Modem and 12v for Scart switching.

Interesting. I don’t use BBA or SCART but I’ll try SCART later with Bangai-o.

Thankfully it’s pretty easy to reinstate the 12V changes.

I’m also yet to see any solid temp measurements/differences with and without 12V rail.

I found this interesting as well when I installed my GDEMU. For something that is (mostly) universally accepted, I didn’t find anything showing differences. Based on your comment it doesn’t seem like that has changed. I have a laser thermometer but I’m not sure what temperature ranges I should be looking for.

The Noctua fan mod is all I needed to do to keep my DC running quiet and cool. I’ve logged a couple hundred hours of PSO since then and it’s been 100% stable. If you’re not noticing any excessive temps, I’m a big believer in “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

And who knows, you’ll probably get an itch for a BBA. :stuck_out_tongue:

My noctua fan isn’t actually that quiet. I’m worried.

What fan did you install exactly? Do you have the model number?

If it’s not quiet enough you can always install a resistor to slow it down.
