Another ODE for the DC, currently at the prototype phase but looks like it could be a good alternative to the GDEMU
For anyone interested, I ordered this cable a while ago and it just arrived. I havenāt tested it extensively yet, but initial impressions are really good. It works wonderfully with a Trinitron and even fixed some warping/distortion on the edges whenever the screen would change. So far itās a good upgrade from svideo.
lol, that didnāt seem to work
I can imagine it will be some crappy western game nobody cares about.
Hopefully not trueā¦but itās difficult not to be disappointed sometimes.
PS, I thought the OG tweet said āgamesā plural, but I see itās just game.
If heās āworking towards⦠Burning Rangersā, what other game might get him there? Iām confused how porting a Dreamcast game would help secure the ability to license a Saturn IP.
A Wario64 post drew my attention to this. Kind of disappointed it doesnāt play the boot up sound, but still strangely tempted by it. Guess Iām not done collecting for the DC.
someone please bump this around october 14th!
Been looking it up, and Andro Dunos 2 on the DC only runs at 480 resolutions apparently, what a shame. Thatās on top of the reported 30fps gameplay. Was really looking forward to playing it after hearing it was supposedly made primarily for the DC (paraphrasing Adam Koralik)
I guess you mean 480i resolution? Thatās acceptable but the 30fps sure isnāt.
yeah 480i/p depending on connection used. pretty much no reason to play it over other versions when coupled with 30 fps
Damn. I was very interested in it to see it in 240p. itās 240p on 3DS (though horizontally stretched, possibly due to the nature of the way 3D works on 3DS)
Performance I was kind of expecting, it is a pretty hectic game and it chugs on 3DS too. Looks like itās reasonably solid 30fps? But no reason it couldnāt be 240p.
Still the best shooter of the last decade IMO. Freaking amazing game.
Iāll probably still get the DC versionā¦
Wireless Dreamcast from Retro Fighters!
I have their wired version. Itās a little more ergonomic than the og, but the triggers are worse. Theyāre not as reactive to small changes - attempting to make free throws in NBA 2K2 highlights the issue. So, if you play a lot of games that need precise trigger use, I would avoid it. Otherwise, I like the controller and generally use it more than the og.
Iāve been meaning to pick up a Japanese Dreamcast for some time now, having missed my original PAL system that I foolishly sold.
Would like to not make any mistakes though - one thing that I noticed about my PAL system was just how loud the fans were when it was runningā¦anyone have any tips on whether there was a difference in cooling assembly between the various revisions released over the lifespan of the system? And, if possible, means of identifying a revision?
My research so far seems somewhat inconclusive, just that the last revision doesnāt play burned CD disc games which isnāt a dealbreaker if it runs the quietest.
There are three revisions (0, 1 and 2). The number is circled on PAL and NA consoles but itās not as straightforward with JP.
Iām not sure if thereās such a thing as a quiet Dreamcastā¦
Oh, and the final revision doesnāt run unofficial software of any kind, including boot discs. Not a big deal if youāre planning on playing only Japanese games on a Japanese system, but something to bear in mind!
There are quiet fan Dreamcast mods out there. Never tried it myself and always just dealt with the noise.
I replaced the fan in my Dreamcast and GD-drive. Whilst it is slightly less noisy itās still very much audible for me.
It will also depend on where you situate your Dreamcast and how noise resistant your setup/environment is.
See earlier in the thread Sega Dreamcast |OT| It's Still Thinking - #432 by raskulous
Those Dreamcast noises are part of the fun for me now. Itās so mechanical. I kinda love it.
Thanks for the help - I did pick one up and it arrived about a month ago! Amazingly the previous owner bought it on Japanese launch day, so itās a model with the liquid cooling, but no quieter than my old PAL system, haha.
Been flicking between a bunch of games, but managed to finish Maken X, a very special game - honestly blown away by what Atlus managed to achieved with it. The amount of variety they get out of the locales seems to line up with the simpler graphics of the era, but the sword fighting and character possession is truly fantastic.
I wouldnāt be surprised if Metroid Prime was as inspired by Maken X as it was Turok - the control setup is almost identical, right down to how lock-on works, and both games have a focus on exploration and platforming. Metroid Prime just does different things with its building blocks.
