Sega Genesis/Mega Drive |OT| WELCOME TO THE NEXT TOPIC

Cool. I kind of figured it had to do with sound. I have a HDG model and a CDX so I’ve never really encountered the different sound except via emulation.

Yep, basically this board gives you the best sound and visuals you can get out of the system. Yeah, some of those HDG models you only need to lift the sub-carrier pin to clean up the video. I’ve always wanted a CDX. Such a cool little console!

I bought mine from ebay when I felt like they would start to become more scarce and pricey. It’s worth at least double what I paid now. And as you say, it’s a super cool device.

I currently have a VA1 Mega Drive. Is it worth getting a VA3/4 for the better sound if I can find one cheap?

Looks great! What are you using to attach the wires to the board to keep them at 90s like that?

They actually aren’t attached to the board at all. I’m using solid-core wires here so I can simply bend them into the shape I want. Once they are cut to the exact length and soldered down they stay put. If I were to attach them to the board I’d probably end up using double sided foam tape. I did use that for attaching the breakout board of the GBA consolizer to the chip it was sitting on.

Just finished recapping my Model 1 VA6.5 Genesis. There were a lot more caps on this board. The recap went well and everything fired right up when testing after the install. Next up is the triple bypass. A little nervous about the pin lift on this one. Wish me luck!

Model 1 VA1 was only released in Japan. If you’re talking about a Model 2, then yes! Going from a Model 2 to a Model 1 VA3/4 would certainly make a big difference. However, going from a Model 1 VA1 to Model 1 VA3/4 probably wouldn’t change much.

So I’ve been reading old Gamefan mags and I ran across this “gem” and I had to share. Lunar was reviewed in the same issue as the Atari Jaguar and its pack-in game Cybermorph.

Lunar scores very highly, but guess what game just happened to get game of the month…

And look at how each of the reviews all sound suspiciously the same. Were they paid by Atari to say that?

There’s also the story of Dave Halverson having his coffee spiked with LSD by co-workers during his Cybermorph play session.

Is that what happened? I knew he wrote it on acid, but that’s even more hilarious.

I found where I saw it mentioned.

Oh, there’s a doosy of a story behind that one. I shit you not, but Halverson was high on acid when he wrote the Cybermorph article, along with half the staff. We had just pulled a couple of all-nighters in a row, which was the norm at deadline times. Apparently, when The Enquirer came back to work the next morning, he dropped some acid in the coffee pot, which most of the crew, including Halverson, drank from. I wasn’t a coffee drinker at the time so I didn’t really notice anything unusual and didn’t learn what was going on until George started threatening to murder Cockburn.

So, re-read that Cybermorph article now that you know he was on acid, and it’ll shed new light on just why he thought it was such a great game."

That’s great, thanks for finding that!

I wrapped up my Genesis 1 VA6.5 triple bypass last night. This was a much more involved install. I ended up removing the Genesis 1 din to make room for the rev 2 triple bypass board. In order to keep pressure off the pins on the CPU from the solid core wire I used double sided gorilla tape. I’m happy with the results though. I now have two consoles in different form factors that put out the best analogue signal you can get! Here are shots of the board while I was working on it and testing it out.

Heh… I love that you are testing with a $500 cart.

Holy crap, is it that high these days? I snagged it for significantly less than that. I just love the colors in the intro sequence and that banger of a song on the first level. Great for making sure it looks the way I want!

If you have it complete (minus registration card), it’s about that. If you only have the cart it’s about half that. Definitely one of the Genesis holy grails on the US side.

It’s an excellent game and very deserving of the price IMO.

Only way for me to get Musha now at a reasonable price is to pick up a Japanese/Asian Mega Drive Mini.

RGB coloured wires for the RGB lines. * Chef’s kiss *
