Silent Hill - Happy 20th Anniversary!

“In my restless dreams, I see that town… Silent Hill.”

20 years ago today, Silent Hill launched on the Sony Playstation. Unlike the glut of Resident Evil imitators from that period, SH really set itself apart with a focus on psychological horror and dread.

I’m a huge fan of the series, with Silent Hill 2 being one of my top 5 favourite games of all time. The first time I beat it, I was up all night thinking about the game, the characters and how the themes tied together. It’s the type of game that you can come back to time and time again, and find something new or have a new theory about.

The series declined overtime, particularly after Team Silent disbanded, however I think every game in the series is worth checking out, except maybe Silent Hill Book of Shadows on Vita (it’s pretty darn bad).

Happy birthday Silent Hill, and hopefully one of these days we’ll see a new entry. Until then, let us all play PT (if we still can) and cry.

Still by far the best game in the series to me. Every thread ties perfectly.

I remember booting that original game up as a kid (I’d played the GTA games so I thought nothing could phase me) and that first scene with the claustrophobic alleys leading to an inescapable fenced enclosure with a crucified corpse and staggering monsters killing you was traumatizing.

I’ll never forget that game
