Thanks, will be interesting to see what extras the BEEP version has, looks like the standard LE already has some instruction flyers unless I’m mistaken?
Also, in order to get the JP Prime bonus do you have to be paying for a Prime sub through the game’s release or can you just do a one month sub when you pre-order and still get the bonus?
So a few days ago I had some decent high scores on Strikers 1999, I go to play today and my high scores for the game are all gone. My offline leaderboard is empty and I’m starting all over with high scores, also made sure I’m still playing on the same difficulty level I earned the scores on (default/normal). Anyone else with the Psikyo Vol 1 collection seeing this? @ShinJohnpv
Edit: Scores are listed as “Today’s Best Score.” So the scoreboard on the PCB was designed to reset every day even when the machine was plugged in? That’s…odd. At least my current high score is saved on the online leader board.
Today I remembered I put Rolling Gunner on my Wishlist for the Switch eShop back in June and picked it up.
I’m really impressed by it. The level and boss design has been exciting so far (I’ve only gotten as far as stage 5 on one continue), and the mechanics encourage risk/reward throughout. You’ve got the different ‘frame’ types which affect your shots, there’s also the ability to lock your secondary fire to the opposite direction that you last moved in (so to attack right twice you have to move left before firing), and you need to stay close to enemies to collect medals (collect 1000 to enable your super).
It’s directed/programmed/designed by ex-Cave developer Daisuke Koizumi who worked on Akai Katana last I think. Having Hirokazu Koshio/Cosio on music was a smart idea, too - fits the atmosphere of the game.
It’s a smartly designed and well made game which exudes craftsmanship. It’s impressive to see it wasn’t made using a third party engine, a rarity among games today, especially independently made ones.
Right, what I meant was most machines would keep the scores as long as the machine wasn’t turned off. This game acts like the machine is being turned off every day when you boot back into the game on your Switch menu. And Strikers I & II on Switch still retain all of your scores on your save file. My copy of Strikers II on Saturn will keep all my scores as long as the system battery isn’t dead and I have it backed up to a Sat memory cart.
then it sounds like a bug, you would think the port would not be so bare bones that scores are not saved between sessions. do other option settings save as expected?
Got to zone G before dying to My Home Daddy. What is it about the original Darius that they don’t allow you to continue? Its harsh, but at the same time it does force me to improve my skills.
I really enjoy this version, as it has 26 unique bosses. The original Darius had 11 bosses repeated throughout the separate zones, but this version adds a lot more replayability with the extra bosses.
Been playing the original Contra on NES for the past 2 weeks. Never played this one before (believe it or not). I’ve gotten past the snow level but died quickly after. Each time I come back though, I’ve been getting further and further. Great game.
It still saves things like my screen filter preference, number of continues, how much to get an extend (just use default for that anyways though), ect.
Nice, I didn’t know the Super CD version had exclusive bosses. Does Super Darius just use the Hucard port as a base or are there any graphical improvements? The Hucard version had a lot of flicker unless you played it on a Supergrafx system.
Thanks for posting the pics of your score too! Always fun to see someone’s progress.
From what I can tell so far, it seems to be the same as the hucard, except this version has the original Zuntata soundtrack and it sounds identical to the arcade.
Sorry had a crazy weekend and just checking out the board now after a few days. I’ll take a look when I get home, though typically I don’t pay attention to my high score, so if it has been happening I wouldn’t have noticed. I’ll look tonight though.
Nice! I pre-ordered that on the eShop for just 5 or 6 bucks so I’m looking forward to playing it. I would have loved to have gotten the physical but it sold out too fast. Looks like its really good, excited to play it.
No worries. One thing I notice now is there is a ‘Best all time score’ inside of the top border of the leaderboard where one of my earlier #1 scores is. However anything that isn’t that particular score doesn’t get saved.
Edit: Never mind, that score is gone now too, I have no idea at this point. lol
Oh no, I’m playing the game outside Japan, I’m a rom thief! I just committed a crime!
Released in 1989, X-Multiply continues the biomechanical “body horror” tradition started by R-TYPE. You pilot a microscopic fighter sent into an infected body to fight an alien virus which has been killing off a group of interplanetary colonists.
Gameplay is pretty basic dodge ‘n shoot, there is some memorization but not overly punishing, it feels like it’s about on par challenge wise with R-TYPE Leo. Your fighter features two upgradeable, XEXEX’esque tentacles which can be used to block enemy fire. Visuals and enemies are nicely detailed with a mellow color scheme that fits the light gore of the environments. The game also features a nicely ominous, moody soundtrack.
Options for playing outside of PCB and emulation are the Sega Saturn Image Fight/X-Multiply combo pack which can set you back anywhere between $200-500 or the incredibly affordable Arcade Archives Edition by Hamster for only $7.99 on PS4 and Switch (I had a little over 200 gold coins in my eShop account so ended up spending only about $6.91, yay!)
