That is awesome! Depending on the price maybe I’ll get the US version of the second collection.
I just ordered the jp version of the first collection after seeing @AgentUnknown post about it. No idea if the western version will include the binder and flyers, but it does look like some of the goodies will be different.
Playing some more Super Darius tonight. Made it all the way to area J and died to Steel Spine. Beat my previous score. I can feel myself slowly getting better with each play.
Just crushed my previous score. Made it to zone K before dying to Hard Mollusk.
Nice, thanks for the update!
Btw per your previous post, does Super Darius not have continues? Or at least limited credits? That’s the occasional down side of playing home ports of arcade shmups, for a lot of games you only get a small handful of continues and that’s it.
Super Darius does not have continues.
I’ve also been playing a ton of Darius Cozmic Collection, and I noticed that both Darius old and new versions also don’t allow for continues. Darius Extra version does though.
Weird, yeah I just noticed that on Cozmic collection too. I’ve been mostly playing Darius Extra for my Darius 1 fix so it kinda flew over my head. Maybe it’s a bug which needs to be patched on the collection, however Extra doesn’t seem to allow for unlimited continues. A friend and I did a 2P credit feed run on Extra back in March shortly after the collection was released, and at one point after dying multiple times on the final stage the game wouldn’t allow us to add any more credits.
I don’t think it was a bug. According to the wiki, continues were a feature added to Darius Extra, but once you reach the final zone the ability to continue is not available.
So, the Darius collection - is the 12:3 (or 4:1) preserved?
I’ve always wanted to try Darius games, but it seems like it’s impossible to find the real arcade machine, and I really want to check it out in its native aspect ratio.
You can play in the original aspect ratio. Looks really good on a big tv. Looks kind of small in portable mode, but still playable.
Since it was ported by m2, it comes with a ton of gadgets, like being able to display the arcade marquees, your shield strength, or even the next boss coming up. You can even enable a special crt filter that mimics the look of the 3 monitor setup.
Yeah, the filter, gadget and marquee display options on Darius Cozmic Collection are really nice. According to an article I read, someone from M2 actually went to take a picture of a marquee on an old Darius machine at an arcade because apparently one of the marquee art assets they had was a bit off, never ceases to amaze me how dedicated those people are.
Darius Cozmic Collection is finally getting a digital release in Japan this September. There’s also going to be an update for the physical release.
The regular version as a download is priced at 5,200 yen and the CE is 6,500 yen. (about 10,000 yen cheaper than the physical release was for the CE)
That’s great more people will be able to get it. Wonder what the update for the physical version is?
It sounded like just small bug fixes nothing major.
I just got confirmation from Limited Run Games that my Battle Garegga LE box set shipped yesterday.
I’ve been playing lots of Darius lately, and I thought it would help the authenticity by trying to replicate the Hey arcade setup.
For reference, this is their setup:
That’s really nice @GraveyardDuck. Talk about doing things in style!
Half the fun of Darius is the experience, right?
What size is that TV?
That’s a great idea, love it!
Is that a filter to emulate the fact that CRT screens/mirrosr in the original cabinet may be slightly offset? Like, you can see a vertical line dividing the image:
