The Sunday Night Shmup thread

So no Turrican collection? Think I’ve successfully stopped myself from getting it.

Yeah I am in that same boat. Specially since I feel like they kind of lied, the shipping email said dhl, the link took me to dhl’s tracking page. The tracking number obviously didn’t work and it turned out to be Ascendia.

My Asendia tracking said it was available at the pick up point for like a week. Then yesterday I get a final notice in my mailbox from usps, even though I never got a 1st or 2nd notice that usps even had the package, I figured it was dhl as well. What a mess.

My Asendia Tracking says it’s still “in transit.” Oh well, double dipping on the Cozmic Collection was a luxury purchase for me anyways as I wanted the few extra physical perks which weren’t in the import set.

@ShinJohnpv Have you had a chance to look at the hardbound art/interview book at all?
Is it still in Japanese or translated into English?

Ohh I didn’t get the special edition version I just got the game, which only came with a pin and like a postcard.

Ahhh, ok. Well, in any case am looking forwarding to hearing what you think of it.

I played with it a bit here and there. It’s basically the first collection just with some different games if that makes sense. Not saying that is a bad thing, just to give you an idea of what to expect. Although one thing that bothered me, a lot of the games have US and Japanese versions, but they’re listed separately which makes it seem like there are more games on here than there actually are. They do explain the differences, but there are other games that when you pick them list stuff like Normal Mode, Time Attack, etc etc, I feel like they could have done the same for these and just listed Mega Drive Version, Genesis Version, or Super Famicom Version, SNES Version.

Mine also says it’s “In Transit” via the tracking page. It shipped just over a month ago, now. I’ve never had this much trouble with a package from SLG. I probably need to reach out to them, and find out if there’s any contingency for this stuff never arriving, because it’s looking more and more like that might be the case.

Just a heads up, in case people didn’t know you can throw the Asendia tracking into the USPS tracking link and get more up to date info.

I had a dream we got a DonPachi Shottriggers collection. Like DonPachi, DoDonPachi, DoDonPachi DaiOuJou, Black Label of it, DDP SaiDaiOuJou, etc etc. That would be so beautiful. Oh well.

Must have been really depressing waking up from that dream.

Retro Bit is releasing collector’s edition reissues of Toaplan’s classic Genesis/MD shooters:

I own Truxton, Hellfire and Fire Shark. Only Fire Shark is complete. All three are phenomenal games if you haven’t played them. They may get me with Zero Wing because I’ve never taken off all Zig.

I got the PC Engine port of Tatsujin/Truxton last year, it’s great!

No grindstormer? :frowning:

M2 plan to release every single Toaplan STG over the next couple of years, the MD ports are fun games but have huge graphic and audio downgrades compared to the arcade originals, I would strongly encorage anyone interested in these titles to have patience and wait for the ShotTriggers goodness…

You’ll definitely need patience. Has there been even a peep out of them this year on their new Aleste? They just stopped talking about it after the Toaplan news came out. Still waiting for anything from the Ikaruga guy as well!

Last month they were doing a location test at Hey! Arcade for the ShotTriggers release of Kyukyouku Tiger but yeah, that’s pretty much it.

Seriously, though, I’m gonna go with both. I think there’s merit in having both the console and arcade ports, in part, because I enjoy both. The arcade versions will be fun to play, and if the M2 STG team gives them the same treatment they’ve done with the CAVE ports they’ve worked on, it means getting a “Super Easy” mode, as well as potentially an arranged mode. There’s no guarantee that their arrangement of Same! Same! Same! will be an arcade take on the Genesis port, which I’ve read the Toaplan staff actually said is the better version, because the difficulty curve is better. Zero Wing we never got here in the US, so that’s a no-brainer, and the others, for me, are just for the fun of it. I see no harm in supporting the Toaplan IP holder in both ways, and showing that there’s interest in officially licensed repros like this.

I’m also in the same boat as Dave, I already own all of them but Zero Wing. (though the only one I don’t have complete is Truxton) I may dive in for Zero Wing, I haven’t fully decided yet though.
