Ginga Force port to PS4 and PC landing on the 24th (though it’s already available on PS4 in Japan).
Really looking forward to getting stuck into this again on PC, score attack in hard mode might just be the most fun I have ever had with a shmup, what an outstanding game.
Don’t think I tried score attack on Hard! Only Normal. I might pick this up so I don’t have to handle my 360 disc any more (silly I know).
Hope Natsuki Chronicle follows asap, been itching to get back into it since shifting the Xbox One X. Rising Star Games has picked up the publishing rights for this version and they aren’t planning on releasing it on Xbox Store on PC, hoping Qute does themselves so my Xbox save transfers over.
Hard is where the game absolutely shines imho, I was a little intimidated by it as the STG Weekly episode made it look really difficult but once I got used to the pre set ships I never went back to any of the other game modes again. I’m actually hoping that the port is good enough so that I can sell my 360 disc, would rather cash in and play a sharper and hopefully better performing version.
I’m very hyped for Natsuki Chronicle too, have made sure not to look anything up about the game since seeing the launch trailer which I very rarely manage to do!
Definitely going to give this a go then, hopefully all difficulties in score attack are unlocked from the off in the PC port.
I don’t want to spoil any specifics about Natsuki Chronicle but you’re in for a treat with the Arcade mode if you liked the fixed ships in Ginga Force score attack mode.
M2 is hosting a streaming event on 9/16 to discuss various items including Darius Cozmic Revelation, ShotTriggers news and grain of salt, but according to this bit pointed out in the Shmups Discord, apparently they might have hinted at a possible Aleste collection?
Looks like Happinet’s TGS booth won’t have anything Brigandine related but the next best thing is their publisher partner announcements - there’s some City Connection stuff we’ll be seeing for the first time, including Deathsmiles and a Psikyo Collection.
Very curious to see how the Deathsmiles port turns out. If it’s anything like their previous (non Zerodiv) rereleases it may be on Unity engine with all the input lag that comes with it…
That M2 live broadcast is on now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRczDpcw03A
20 past the hour - Taito news (Darius Cozmic Revelation)

Excite!
Ketsui announced for a US release
As revealed in our stream (currently live at youtube.com/watch?v=XRczDp…) we have finalized the English version of Ketsui Deathtiny -Kizuna Jigoku Tachi-, and it will be available for download purchase soon!
And there’s an Aleste collection coming for PS4 and Switch that will have The Mark III game, 2 Game Gear games, and the SMS game. As well as a special limited edition white Game Gear Mini that will have those 4 games on it.
Awesome news!
Nice, that’s two spendy Game Gear titles I can cross off my list. Kind of disappointing though they’re only focusing on the GG/SMS titles, I was really hoping for the Aleste MSX games (are those properly emulated?) and of course Space Mega Force, MUSHA, ect.
If the first aleste collection does well enough maybe they would do a second one like they’ve done with Darius.
They did say there would be more news on the Aleste collection later in the month, so maybe they’ll be adding more games to it.
Seems like the limited edition release that comes with the White Game Gear has already sold out on Beep. I’m waiting for the regular edition to go up on Amazon Japan personally.
The rest of the goodies, some of which weren’t in the Japanese box set, what really makes this worth it for me is the art/interview book which is now hardcover and translated into English, can’t wait to read these:
That is beautiful. I sure wish mine would arrive.
It’s honestly a better package overall than the Japanese box set, I’m really glad I splurged and got both now. The translated hardcover book is fantastic, it also has an extra Zuntata soundtrack CD which was not in the import box. Having a proper, snap-shut case to store the games and extras in is also really nice. Plus it has the extra arcade instruction sheets and PCB box from the BEEP edition at a far cheaper price. Although the shipping was really slow, SLG was good about communicating delays related to COVID the whole time (not that it can all be blamed on the pandemic of course) and given the high quality here of all the physical items I would be open to buying from them again in the future depending on the game, honestly.
I’m not real big on shooters, and I have never bought a collector’s edition of a game before, and I am all-digital on Switch but … that looks like it will be worth some scratch down the road. Nice package.
UPDATE: it’s no longer on a boat somewhere - it actually arrived in the US a couple days ago, and was in NY, presumably for sorting. No further updates, but that’s the most movement I’ve seen on it in over a month, so that’s something!
Played some Ginga Force on PC. It’s a good port, no complaints with how it plays!
Nothing unlocked from the start - just chapter 1 on easy and normal on both story and score attack modes
Did they always let you play more than one missions in any order? After failing mission 2 a second time it unlocked missions 3-5.
