Darius Cozmic Revelation LE is up on Amazon JP with the usual, annoying Prime-only DLC item available today only (apparently it’s the Mega Drive port of Darius which was on the Genesis Mini). Not sure if the LE itself is Amazon Prime exclusive. Doubt I’m getting the LE this time, doesn’t seem worth $200+ unlike the first collection which was jam packed with content and this only includes two games.
I wanted to get the LE on Switch, but they’re charging over 25000 yen on shipping and custom fees. Have never gotten charged as much before, and I have had some big orders shipped over.
Yeah, it’s just not worth it. First Darius Cozmic Collection LE was fantastic for both content and extras, this is just bare bones overall and feels like a cynical cash grab. Plus, I already have Darius Burst CS on PS4, so I’d be dropping over $200 just to get an HD version of G-Darius and a few physical extras (which also look pretty lacking compared to the first LE). Between this and the Aleste collection only focusing on the GG games, M2 has been kind of dropping the ball content wise lately. Also, if I recall correctly, the first Darius Cozmic LE was about $180 and the SLG version of the LE collection was about $150 (not including shipping). This is way more expensive than both for far less incentive.
I ended up pre-ordering the standard version, only 2 games is kind of a bummer, they really should have just put each version of Dariusburst on there. Still, I’m in it for G-Darius for sure.
And even though it’s technically a hack, I would have loved if they would have included Darius Gaiden Extra somewhere in there. I love that version.
Yeah I went for the regular version as well.
Wow that’s crazy, thanks for the video
For Sunday nights, I did another playthrough of the best N64 shmup!
All jokes aside, Star Soldier Vanishing Earth is a game I like a lot. It certainly has the best Caravan mode in… anything considering how much more scoring mechanics it has and the sheer amount of crap they filled levels with
Nice! I always wanted to play that, definitely a “forgotten” entry in the series. Also possibly the only 2D shmup on N64?
For tonight’s Sunday Night Shmup I’m enjoying some Psikyo comfort food in the form of Strikers 1945 III/1999, been several months since I played it and wanted to brush up on my skills. I love the one-hit core kills you can pull off on the bosses and also like how your charge shot can be used more strategically since it doesn’t get instantly depleted unlike the first two games.
There’s Dezaemon 3D but both of the pre-built games are very short
I think Vanishing Earth is better than most probably give it credit for, though it’s still a little basic. Even so, it’s solid, playable, and I always get a kick out of the “MAIN WEAPON POWERUP!” bit every time you grab a “P” icon
Looks like you need that HORI stand for your Switch! I use this one when I’m not holding it in the FlipGrip.
This makes me want to fire up my copy. Been a while since I’ve played it. I didn’t know about the one hit core kills. Any particular trick to do it?
Snips Wrong thread!
Thanks but I’m way ahead of ya, buddy. I actually was playing it on my Hori stand which I’ve posted pics of in here many times, it just doesn’t always show up great depending on the picture/lighting/angle I go for (like the last one where my joy con was blocking out the bottom of the stand). Have owned one for about three years now (and a Flip Grip too, another most own of course):
It’s called the “Technical Bonus,” probably my favorite part of the game. In Strikers 1945 III/99, bosses will eventually display a bright, red core for a few moments (during whatever the second attack phase of the boss is). If you can get right in front of the core without dying and shoot it, the boss will explode instantly while giving you a nice score bonus. I usually wait until right before the core appears then drop a bomb so I can swoop in and blast it right away without having to weave through bullets on the way (which usually results in either dying or not getting to the core in time before it disappears although I have been able to do it bomb-free on more than a few occasions, not sure if the bonus is less for using a bomb). Each boss has a little tell/animation/transformation before displaying their cores.
Super cool, going to try this! Hey Thanks for the tip! I love when I find out cool things like this by word of mouth. Reminds of talking shop on the playground as a kid.
Dragon Blaze has the same mechanic but that game is too hard for me to ever execute any of that stuff!
Oh yeah, forgot that Dragon Blaze also has the core-kills. Love that game, another one I need to get back to.
Still working on Darius Twin, and I keep getting pwned by the stupid crab mini-boss in the boss rush in Zone L. If that fool wouldn’t be there, I would have beat this game 2 weeks ago. Sigh. I’ll get it, I just need to continue to practice.
