Your best bet for that part is to hang in the safe spot in the upper right corner and not shoot anything until the boss appears (if you kill the sunfishes fast, multiple craps will spawn in)
I’ll have to give that another try. I’ve been trying the bottom right corner, but I seem to still get tagged by a stray bullet from an enemy, or by the crab’s rings it shoots out. Is the top right corner safe from the crab’s fire?
No, but there’s enough space to dodge it if you don’t kill other bosses.
You’ve probably all seen that United Games has picked up the Cotton Reboot for publishing globally, it seems they’ve assigned it to their Inin Games label for widespread availability.
That’s great news - was worried it would be a Strictly Limited Release that won’t arrive for months after preorders open.
I sometimes wonder what makes them decide which publishing label to go with. Wish Space Invaders Invincible Collection and Darius were Inin Games not Strictly Limited. Bubble Bobble 4 got both - best of both worlds surely?
Strictly Limited seems to always deliver quality, but incredibly late, compared to the order date. Even Limited Run Games is always months out from when you buy, to when you get it. But I’m happy that Cotton Reboot is getting a Western distributed release, so I can’t complain too much.
Interesting, the only thing I’ve ordered from Strictly Limited is Sisters Royale, which has still yet to ship! Hope it delivers, you’ve upped my expectations now
I wonder if Cotton Reboot will get a separate SL release, that would be cool.
Nice work! How many attempts do you estimate it took?
Thanks! All told, probably 25-30 attempts, I think. I was reaching the final stage pretty quickly, so the last 10-12 attempts (at least) were just dealing with the stupid crab mini-boss. The actual boss of the final level isn’t that hard. Funny thing is, because I was struggling with that so much, I made a save state just before the final level, so I could practice it, if the run I was on didn’t end up in a win, and then wouldn’t you know it, I finally beat it
That is awesome, congrats! How do you think Darius Twin compares difficulty wise as a possible 1CC with Super Nova?
Good question. I never beat Super Nova, and it’s been a while since I played it, but I remember it being more difficult. Darius Twin doesn’t really ramp up until about stage 4. That, and Super Nova’s weapon system being a little different probably makes it a bit more challenging from the get-go.
Yeah I was wondering because I don’t have a lot of experience with Darius Twin but Super Nova felt pretty brutal from the get go for a 16-bit era shmup.
Having 1LC both games (bottom route of both), I would say doing the bottom route of Darius Force is a slightly easier than 1CC but any other branch is wayy more brutal than Twin. Darius Force is one of those funny games where 90% of your death are because enemies rammed your ass at great speed before you could really react - it just doesn’t feel very balanced imo.
Just a heads-up, in case anyone’s interested. The RF Generation Shmup Club game for November is Jamestown+ so break out the turkey & dressing, along with your laser cannons!
Played TwinBee Yahho and Detana Twimbee most of the week, but switched boards on the Neo cab for some Halloween Deathsmiles.
Really loving Yahho as I’ve never spent much time before with it, I think this is a manageable 1CC as I reached stage 5 before swapping for Deathsmiles. Will surely return to the TwinBee games later this week.
Working on a full level 3 no Ex Stage Run on Deathsmiles. Did 98 million tonight at Jitterbug, yet to beat my personal best of around 115 million. I think I got most stages down, last stage still giving me some trouble in some pretty avoidable choking points.
This is pretty cool, Hamster has confirmed all Arcade Archives titles on PS4 will be BC on PS5:
Speaking of Arcade Archives, the wait for Raiden is getting really frustrating, the Seibu ACA announcement was way back in June and so far they’ve only released Wiz and that was months ago. Think I’m gonna have to fire up my copy of Raiden Project again to get my fix.
Edit: Or has there been another Seibu ACA title released besides Wiz?
So tonight in true @Yakumo fashion I played PS1 and Saturn versions of DoDonPachi side by side. Someday I’ll get the PCB and run them all simultaneously.
PS1 is IMO the way to go as far as ports of this and DonPachi go.
Very nice, what are the differences between them?
There are obvious graphical differences, mainly some effects (explosions and bomb effects, some bullet patterns) look very low res and pixelated on Saturn vs the PS1 and arcade versions.
Also sound playback is quite different. Don’t know if this is due to my Saturn’s laser (works fine with other games) but sound effects don’t load and play back 100% of the time, and then music tracks don’t transition smoothly between cues and there are always pauses to load tracks in-between; Saturn version in general sounds lower quality all around, PS1 version is actually very smooth in that regard and closest but not a spot-on match of the arcade, most notably on the sound effects when you pick up stars and bees (doesn’t sound right on Saturn either).
And then there’s the gameplay. Saturn version very much feels like a port, a very inaccurate port while we’re at it, it features more slowdown than the arcade version and when it hits it doesn’t feel as smooth, and it feels a bit laggy. PS1 version however feels like an emulated version and thus much closer in feel to the arcade release, though not 100% accurate either even with the wait control option.
Mind you take this with a grain of salt, as my experience with the arcade version is fairly limited as I only play it whenever I go to Japan, don’t have the PCB and don’t play emulators.
