The ACA port of Darius is finally being released on Switch, a great way to enjoy the first game without having to buy the Cozmic Collection. For years now the ACA version was only available on PS4:
Some great pics from a 1986 issue of Gamest magazine here:
Forgot to add, the ACA port contains all three versions of Darius 1.
If anyone is near Chicago or traveling through and can make it to Galloping Ghost, they have a Darius there. Awesome stuff.
Do you know that the japanese version is harder than the western ?
Western easy (1): too altered, not good.
Western normal (2): good.
Japanese easy (1): slightly more difficult, good.
Japanese normal (2): be prepared !
Such an awesome game (on the three first levels, didn’t go any further, maybe kind of repetitive after, don’t know) with great die and retry mecanics.
Played some Mushihimesama and Raiden this weekend on my Switch, two of my all time favorite vertical shmups. Been pushing to better my score on both.
been grinding for a Mushi Original 1cc for a while. I have each of the levels down individually, but when it comes to putting a run together I invariably mess up. those bullet speeds are no joke
Since its modern release on Switch, Mushihimesama quickly became a favorite of mine. I love how short the game is so trying to 1cc it on Original is actually a task I may try to do someday.
I love how much content there is. If I ever manage to get the original 1cc, there’s Maniac and Ultra, then the same for both 1.5 and Arrange. I’ve already put in 50 hours into Original alone. best $20 on a game I ever spent I think (same goes for the other Livewire ports)
I’ve been playing mostly on Maniac… but not particularly well ![]()
Radiant Silvergun for Switch will be getting a physical version including a deluxe collector’s set from Limited Run Games:
An affordable way to own this game, who would have thought this day would come (not sure if the 360 release had a physical release)
Correct, RS 360 port did not have a physical release.
$40 isn’t terrible, but the Saturn import can be had for $200ish so it’s not completely awful if you really want the original. OK, maybe it’s awful. Either way, Saturn also features no input delay while these versions inherently do.
I’m just being a grumpy old man. I miss CRTs more and more as these games get re-released in less than perfect ways. It’s good people get to play them though.
agreed, if I’m not mistaken this port and the 360 have an extra frame of lag over the Saturn version. if it has an option to stretch the game to 16:9 I can play it on my CRT if needed, but one good thing about these ports is the practice modes. so basically you’d practice on the modern ports and do your serious run on the Saturn
Akai Katana is getting a new release for PS4, XB1 and Switch on December 15th, physical editions will only be available for PlayStation 4 and Switch:
looks like it’ll be in the vein of the Deathsmiles port. can’t wait, never played this one. going to be good to have another physical Cave port
The Saturn and STV verisons have 3 frames of input lag, the 360 port 4, the 360 port via BC and Switch have 5. If you want to play a video game without inherant input delay then you have to go back to something like the Atari 2600.
Steam has been announced too which if the quality of Deathsmiles is repeated will make it the definitive port to play. Special K FTW.
Same deal as Akai Katana, no physical version for XBox.
I never got around to buying Raiden III way back when it was released not to mention Akai Katana so am looking forward to playing both of those.
