died in Mushi to the final boss on the final pattern lol
How’s that going? I figured you’ve cleared it by now.
This was tonight’s best run, died just a bit before the last boss. Keep dying with full bomb stocks, I could clear it powebombing through difficult patterns, but where’s the fun in that?
It’s Wednesday and you can’t stop me from posting!
Arcade Archives this week is Taito’s Strato Fighter, one I hadn’t heard of before. Looks neat.
Oh wow, that looks great! Have also never heard of it, ACA continues to deliver so many interesting lesser known titles, gotta love Hamster.
Reminds I also still need to check out Rezon which was released in April (really nice looking yet shameless R-TYPE rip off).
Edit: Looks like it’s actually Tecmo, will be interesting to see if there’s any similarities to Thunder Force. You can fire in reverse for one thing.
Oops sorry!
Ha, no worries. Game looks fun and am going to get it tomorrow, will post impressions when I have time.
finally got the clear, ironically on a bad run lol. I was scoring super low for some reason, only got the first extend by the time the 3rd boss came around. I usually get it at the end of stage 3
I went into Stage 5 with just 1 continue and I used my final bomb on the final pattern. it’s my first ever 1cc but I feel kind of bad about it, I know I could’ve done much better. I’ll try to fix it one day with a good run, maybe even reach the TLB
Congrats!
thanks! next on the list are Espgaluda and Dodonpachi. both of them kick my butt at around Stage 3, so I’ll need to practice a lot. PS2 port of Espgaluda has a great training mode so should be fun
I’d like to 1 credit clear Mushi someday (I mainly play Maniac and can get to about halfway through stage 4 on one credit). I’m planning on doing another 1cc of Batsugun on Switch, I cleared the Saturn version on one credit many years ago back in 2005. My only other 1 credit clear was Gradius 1 on the PSP collection about 10 years ago (1cc’d it twice).
I’ve yet to try Maniac or Ultra. I played a bit of 1.5, then Arrange yesterday and I’m not sure if they’re easier or harder yet. couldn’t pass stage 3 in either but at least the bullet speeds are slower. man, Original Normal could just snipe you in the blink of an eye sometimes
Definitely let us know. It’s rare that something appears I’ve never heard of that looks THAT cool. ![]()
all that practice in Mushi has definitely paid off. Espgaluda is now a lot easier for me. did a run cold, and passed my high score and got farther than I ever did
Congratulations! While an original mode clear isn’t among Cave’s hardest, it isn’t a walk in the park either.
Anyways tonight I also got a clear, first one on my PCB, thought I’d share.
very nice, great score too! even more impressive on a PCB imo
Thanks! There’s not much nuance to the scoring in Mushihimesama Original, the bulk of the scoring comes from leftover lives at the end of the game, so it’s mostly a survival endeavor.
Maniac and Ultra modes do have some interesting (and perhaps too complex for their own good) scoring mechanics come into play.
Look forward to that, but perhaps I’ll change games for a while before returning to Mushi Maniac. I see you’ve moved on to Espgaluda, hope you have as much fun as I did earlier this year on the uphill battle that is learning the last boss!
I’m going to try for a no miss run, seems to be where the best score comes from
you also get bonuses for not destroying the legs of stage 2’s boss for example and a couple of other things like that. those bushes in Stage 2 that periodically open and close can be milked for points while they’re closed too
Espgaluda is such a deceptive game. seems easier with the slowdown mechanic but it’s anything but and I’ve heard a lot about the final boss. if I’m not wrong that’s the one where even bombs replenish its health lol
I downloaded Raiga: Strato Fighter last night on my Switch and I’m loving it. It’s just a fun, enjoyable horizontal shooter with somewhat laid back difficulty, I was easily able to get to stage 3 on one credit. Also, depending on how many power ups you’ve collected, you don’t always lose all of your firepower after dying which is nice, the game also constantly throws more upgrades at you to choose from like a Compile game.
The weapons are nicely varied and switching between forward and reverse fire often requires real strategy and is overall essential to the gameplay and not just a gimmick. Lovely sound and nice, colorful visuals with big sprites and good chunky explosions. If you’re looking for a fun, chill horizontal shooter I highly recommend it, yet another hidden ACA gem. It’s also actually by Koei Tecmo, not Technosoft as I mistakenly thought before. Here are some screens I took:
Today is the 31st anniversary of TF IV’s release:
