Upcoming retro re-releases - Delphine Software Collection 1, Duke Nukem Collection 1 & 2, Sunsoft Collection 1 (Evercade)

Can’t say I’ve ever heard of this game. What’s the gist of it?

You play a thief in a stealth action game, at least that’s my understanding, made by Tenchu/Way of the Samurai devs, has some elements from those games it looks like. It’s definitely not some AAA game, more of a cult experience it looks like

City Connection has announced that Layer Section & Galactic Attack S-Tribute will arrive on the eShop on April 28th, but not only that, there are more games coming in the future!

  • Elevator Action Returns
  • Metal Black
  • Cleopatra Fortune
  • Puzzle Bobble 2X & 3

Release date: TBA

I love Elevator Action Returns, so I’m pretty excited about this.

Also, a trial version of Layer Section & Galactic Attack S-Tribute is available on the Japanese eShop now. If anybody here has a Japanese account, why not give it a try and report back here about its frame rate and input lag? Thanks in advance!

Oh man, if someone with a Japanese account can download Layer Section and confirm whether it’s the arranged or OG soundtrack l, I’d appreciate it.

Don’t feel like creating a Japanese account just for that, but I’m really curious about it.

Elevator action returns is absolutely one of my holy grails. Can’t wait.

Taito from those years is the shit.

Eh… just found a trailer for this:

That is playing in the cropped non-TATE mode (I think referred to as yoko mode). Yuck.

Not even sure why you’d include such a thing in a modern release. Hopefully they have a genuine TATE setting an option for original soundtrack. Kind of bizarre that they’re porting the Saturn version over opting for the original arcade release. I wonder what the thinking is there.

This game on Saturn is one of my favorites of all time and my real intro to modern SHMUPs. So I really hope the options and settings are robust enough justify a double dip on Switch.

There’s already a Saturn emulator being used for classic releases. Might be easier to use that than license an arcade emulator.

Downloaded it last night and it feels all right. Can only play through the first level and the music seems to be the same as the Saturn version too.

It has a tate/yoko options, but setting them up is a bit of a PITA. Gotta go into the game options as well as the emulator options to get it all cranking. I had it set as a decent sized tate mode and was thinking, this is all right, then changed something and couldn’t work out what I had done, or how to get it back to the larger screen setting. I was unimpressed with that.

They have also added a super ugly scanlines filter too. Add to that, it appears to have a rewind option on it as well, but as far as I can tell, you have to hit the pause to bring up the emulator options as opposed to it being mapped to a trigger button, or something more convenient.

I’ve only played through it once though. So might be able to set it up. I must admit my screen issues put me off playing it again, so I decided to take a break and try again later. Which hasn’t come yet.

Thanks for your write-up about the trial version!

Sounds like there are a few wrinkles to iron out, but at least it seems to be better than their previous Saturn emulation efforts.

Oh man I hate this game. I remember the mad smashing of both jump and diagonally up to make old Pac there float across obscenely long jobs. Used to infuriate me no end. Just an exercise in joystick smashing endurance.

Which version did you play? If I recall correctly, in the arcade version you only have to tap right repeatedly.

Yeah this is a huge surprise and I enjoyed them back when they 1st released, can’t wait to play this!

Mostly the C64 version and some arcade version.
either way, I hated the repeated smashing of some direction. I was captivated by the graphics and music though. It looked so much like the cartoon at the time I was suckered in.

I have it on Famicom and PC Engine. PCE is pretty much all you need.

The arcade game came so close to being that platform game breakthrough, with the great cartoony worlds to explore. But the controls and some design decisions killed it, allowing Super Mario Bros to be the breakthrough.

Wonder Boy kinda feels like a spiritual sequel, with that old style arcade ‘relentlessness’ applied to a platformer.
