Analogue & Retrousb FPGA Consoles OT

Was about to post this but looks like someone has already

Super Nt firmware v4.9 released today. The DAC is mentioned which is mind blowing. I wrote it off as vaporware long ago. I’m not sure if this means the 1080p (was it that?) scanline bug has been fixed. I haven’t checked it out, but I usually played in 720p anyway.

Release notes:

v4.9 notes:

  • Added DAC compatibility (required for DAC)
  • Added user font loading
  • Added RGB sliders for standby color
  • Added SPC player
  • Fixed top missing scanline bug
  • Added new scanline system
  • L/R audio input bug fix
  • Fixed ā€œyou cannot use a mouse with this gameā€ on Panic Bomber World
  • Fixed Star Wars pausing bug
  • Many small fixes and changes

Didn’t see this one coming, can’t wait to see what is supported.

Does the new jailbroken firmware allow DSP chip games like Mario Kart & pilotwings to load from the SD card?
The readme notes suggest it does

This should answer your question

I have installed the new firmware, had some issues at first, didn’t realise there were 3 folders included with the firmware download that have to be put on the ROMs SD card (they contain all the supported special chip bios) now I have my backups of Pilotwings & Mariokart running from the SD card!

Fingers crossed we get Super Fx support in the future.

I was going to make a thread for this but it makes sense posting here instead!

Analogue has recently filed a trademark request for the ā€œAnalogue Pocketā€, so there’s something portable in the works. Probably Game Boy-related if ā€˜Pocket’ refers to more than just portability.

How intriguing. As you’ve probably seen in the other threads, I spent a couple of months of portable gaming this year revisiting the old Game Boy library on, er, three models of Game Boy Pocket. Part of the big appeal of returning back to the GBP was the old ghosting and flickering display, which enabled special graphical effects in titles like Belmont’s Revenge, never having to worry about battery life, and the cheap availability of games via cartridge.

An analogue pocket should easily nail the second and third points there, but I do wonder how they’ll handle the screen. If it has Game Boy Color support a black-and-white display is out of the picture, and something like the PlayDate’s screen can only display one colour instead of four. So I’m guessing it’ll be a modern LCD or OLED panel with filters applied by the user’s demand.

However, even the best Game Boy pixel filters can’t replicate that flicker effect to create lighter distant backgrounds Belmont’s Revenge, and there’s something about how natural light reflects off the Game Boy and Pocket displays which gives it a very unique antialiased look to it - the pixels never really appear harsh or sharp, even when close up.

If they plan on doing GBC support it’ll be interesting to see how they handle the colour gamut as well - hopefully they are prioritising colour accuracy, at least as an option.

Looks like 32X is coming!

That thing looks so silly sitting on the Mega SG.

32X prices are bonkers o_O

This stuff just keeps getting better.

Hello there DAC - Analogue

I remember seeing a dot matrix emulator on the mana collection I think, and it look pretty cool. Getting that gameboy ghosting and smoothness will probably pretty hard. I have fond memories of it and would like to be able to play GB only games on a ā€œperfectā€ replica like that.

$80? I was actually expecting $100, but it’s still too much I think. Either way, I’ll wait until reviews come out prior to making a decision. Based on all their other products I expect some issues out of the gate.

After typical Analogue shipping ($90 to NZ) and the terrible rates right now this is pushing $300 NZD, so it’s a hard no from me.

Ha, just saw some people on twitter talking about shipping. $21usd to US, $35usd to Canada.

I forgot what I paid for shipping the SNT from Seattle to Seattle was, but it was more than it should have been.

[edit] My SNT order. $15 to ship within the same city. The 10.9% total tax they charged me exceeded the tax rate at that time too btw. Eat a DAC Analogue.

[edit2] per HD Retrovision on twitter tax applies to shipping cost too, smh.

Even Bob is talking shit about the shipping cost.

This is what happens when you sub out shipping to another company and don’t care they’re overcharging your customers.

What are people talking about? You guys are out of your mind for your assumptions about UPS shipping. Go to ups.com and make a shipment to a residential address from somewhere in Seattle. UPS isn’t cheap when delivering to rural and residential addresses. Not only that, if the customer types in the wrong address even if a simple misspelled word they charge you $15 to correct the address and if you are lucky they will fix the address and deliver it. If not, it goes back to the shipper and you have to reship on your own dime. I really think people don’t understand shipping because Amazon and other retailers often eat it to get your business.

When Game-Tech as one man company can ship for less than Analogue which would presumably save on scale then it’s obvious their customers are being overcharged on shipping to make the retail price seem lower.

BTW the UPS site shows ground shipping with signature from Seattle to Seattle costs half of what customers are being charged as posted above.
