Analogue & Retrousb FPGA Consoles OT

I already have a consolized Neo Geo. You were thinking of Chac.

Oh yeah you are right.

I hope this ends up being the case. You think this will downscale 480p or pass through native 240p from the console?

I don’t see why it would be a downscale.

HDMI can carry a 240p signal. It’s off spec, but that doesn’t matter when it’s using proprietary hardware.

I think what MEGA is hinting at is a way to downscale 480p to 240p like an Extron Emotia. This allows you to, for example, play Shovel Knight on a ps4 @ 480p on a crt @ 240p. The NT will definetly just do 240p over hdmi.

What’s weird is that 240p HDMI is in spec and has been for a long time (720x240) plus has been upgraded over the years (up to 2880x240). It’s just optional and a lot of stuff doesn’t bother supporting it or does a poor job displaying it because it isn’t common.

Ah yes, that’s true. In fact, I totally forgot that my LG 55" TV actually supports it. If I set my OSSC to pass through mode, my TV correctly displays it as 240p and scales itself.

Yeah, this is what I meant. The NT or the adapter will need to output 240p to work with the bulk of CRTs out there. I agree it makes most sense for it to be native 240p from the console.

I think I punched a hole in my mouse pushing that LIKE heart so hard!

Haha I know, I’m pretty excited too. However, I will be out of town from then until the 10th. So I’ll be enjoying my Super NT vicariously through the web lol.

Actually it will be kind of nice to read hands on reviews of the console and the wireless controllers. My OG snes pads are fine but a good wireless one (and one that matches the livery of the consoler lol) would be nice!

so going by how quickly my NT Mini got to me in the UK (two days!!), I’ll have it by the weekend. aw yes.

What game will you all play first? I was doing a run of Super Metroid on Wii+OSSC. The Wii’s output is not the best and there is the slightest perceptible lag even with a 14ms TV. I may start over on the Super NT and enjoy the superior picture quality and response time.

I hope it shows up no later than Friday! Great way to start the weekend!!

I have a Super Famicom Jr which I csync rgb modded. However, despite the SFC/SNES JR offering the best video output out of all the SNES revisions, there’s an overdrive of the RGB lines of the PPU - this results in a small amount of afterimage/blur on lighter areas. You can fix this via lifting a pin on the PPU and adding a resistor - but it’s really, really, really hard. I’m competent enough with soldering to install a NESRGB and UltraHDMI and I wouldn’t risk it. If you fuck up, it’s irreversible.

…for most people, this wouldn’t matter. but for me it does. Using a Super NT will make the most difference with Yoshi’s Island and Super Game Boy when scaled.

When you put that much effort into getting a better picture already I find it matters more. Like I have no problem just dicking around and playing games on my SNES mini even though I know it doesn’t have the best image quality, but if I’m using my modded system on my BVM I have to make sure everything is perfect.

Yeah same. It’s why I’ve gone full on c-sync madness with each console, even building an rgb bypass board for my mega drive, just to get the best image on my JVC broadcast monitor.

It’s an endless pursuit of perfection - but I honestly believe the NT Mini I bought is perfection as far as 8 bit consoles go. I have absolutely zero regrets selling my RGB modded AV Famicom to finance it. It’s utterly amazing. If the Super NT is anywhere near that quality, I’d happily sell my RGB/Optical Audio modded Super Famicom Jr. Because honestly, it’s not getting better than this.

My god. how am I going to cope?

my Sony 5.1 system has four inputs. They are currently:

  1. PC
  2. Switch
  3. OSSC
  4. NT Mini

Next month I will have both the Super NT and UltraHDMI. I’m two sockets short. I’ve got a cheap ass Ā£3 switch box from Amazon, that should be ok right?

I thought that was the thing Voultar fixed by replacing a specific capacitor on the SNES JR. One of the small ones. Check out My Life In Gaming’s updated SNES RGB Amp video from hmm a few weeks ago or so.

I’ve got a Kinivo 5 port HDMI switch that works really well, it’s a bit more than Ā£3 though.
