Analogue & Retrousb FPGA Consoles OT

It’ll be a hdmi-rgbhv adapter I gaurentee it. The adapters can be found on amazon for peanuts but require analog to properly Implement 240p over hdmi

I think he’s missing one recommendation in his response… I think GB Player + GBI ULL + component cables + PVM is the most high quality setup you could have. It’s as close to authentic as possible with perfect sound and timing.

I’ve come to the conclusion that you need that plus a SGB2 setup for the handful of games that are cool on that plus an appropriate handheld for each generation of games for portable play. For original gameboy you just run a brick or pocket and a GBC for GBC games.

GBA is the most annoying cause even though I find the GBC screen great in most lighting conditions the GBA one is way darker so I have 3 GBAs I rotate between depending on circumstances.

(running on an OSSC though not a pvm)

Even then, the ULL version has weird sync issues on all my CRT’s. I’m more excited for a GBA core on the NT than anything else, even SNES.

A GBA core on the Super NT would be amazing, but the architecture is a lot more complex than the SNES. I dont think it’s going to happen.

What sort of sync issues?

Dammit, I’ve just ordered one. I went for the Super Nt - SF but I would have been happy with any of the designs other than the transparent version.

I already have 8bitdo controllers so i’ve save a bit of money there.

This will be my first Analogue console and from what I’ve seen of the Nt mini it should incredible. The NES/Famicom was never really “my” console so the asking price was far too high for how much use I would have got out of the machine.

This is technically my first SNES also, I didn’t own one back in the day although friends did own them and I obviously have played them. The strange thing is that it was actually the NES Mini Classic really got me back into these games and I’d been wondering which way to go to get a good quality SNES setup and I’d been hovering around all the different ways of doing it and they were all pretty pricey so I wanted to ensure that I did it the right way.

Then this was announced and it jut seemed like the cheapest way of doing it and also getting really quality. The Nintendo mini consoles are fantastic for what they are but they really aren’t the best way of playing SNES games, I have two of the NES and the SNES versions and I could easily cover the cost of the cost of the Super Nt by selling only one or two of the four consoles that I own. I do like them so I am going to keep them though, they do have their place.

So far I have a pretty measly collection of SNES games to play on this, I own Secret of Mana, Super Mario World and Super Mario All-Stars. Also I will have Super Turrican - Director’s Cut and Super Turrican 2 which I do enjoy but I don’t know that I would have gone out of my way to buy if they weren’t included.

I know it’s a pathetic collection (stop laughing ) compared to most on here but I’m trying to avoid becoming a “collector” as I would have no issues buying a terrible quality cartridge without the packaging if it was a game I wanted and the cartridge worked as it should. For me it is only about the actual software and getting the best I can out of that software.

I am wanting to add other games too but I am going to be quite selective in the titles that I buy.

I really can’t wait for this to turn up so I can try out my awesome yet pathetic little collection of SNES games and I am hoping that ROM hacks will be possible at a later date as I have been trying a few of them on the Nintendo mini but again, although it does an OK job, it’s a long way from what these little boxes of magic should be able to do. I’ll be on the hunt for the Seiken Densetsu 3 as soon as that happens, if it happens.

I assume that this thread is going to be the place to be on here for newbie advice on Analogue systems when this turns up?

Its a rolling sync/tear that pops up randomly. Doesn’t happen on the LL version which is good enough for me on a crt lagwise.

I’ve actually seen that before. But doesn’t always happen. I didn’t realize it’s a sync issue.

Stopped off at maplin earlier and picked up the bits I needed to make an RGB scart cable for my NT Mini

Was starting to get a bit pissed off as I couldn’t get a stable image on my monitor, just constant rolling and no sync. Then realised that the VGA standard requires pins 4 and 10 to be bridged for it to be identified as an RGB cable. Seems like a pretty critical thing for analogue to leave out of their guide…

Ah well, all is good now! It’s awesome on my JVC

This thing was definitely worth the purchase for me. So good. If the Super NT gets an RGB output module and a jailbreak firmware, I’ll only be using the OSSC for my Saturn and Neogeo…at least I’m future proofing myself.

Mmmmm. Looks stellar!

This is true. I know rent is high in the city, but the prices at the ones I’ve been to are far above and beyond what one would expect to be a reasonable markup. They’re clearly gouging customers because of the ongoing retro bubble that started in recent years. One place I went to on the Lower East Side didn’t have a single NES, Genesis or SNES game below $15 and that includes garbage commons, pack-ins and sports games.

My neighborhood’s local B&M is nice tho. Everything is decently priced, this one guy who works there regularly gives me on the spot reductions without my asking, and they have pretty frequent 10-20% off sales on holidays and random weekends. I end up paying markey/ebay prices or sometimes lower.

Analogue has confirmed external DAC (proprietary and affordable) in development for the Super NT and future consoles from them. Plugs into HDMI port. Unfortunately they posted it in a series of unthreaded tweets.

I saw this earlier too. Awesome.

If it turns out well, I’m not sure if I’ll need to keep my SFC Jr…

This makes me feel like they are going to make a new Analogue NT (NES) without the metal BS. I like mine but seriously would much rather own a plastic or composite material instead.

I dunno, I kinda feel like I wouldn’t give my NT Mini up for anything. It looks and feels every bit the most premium bit of hardware I’ve ever bought. Which is crazy considering it’s a NES! A lot of that is down to the design and aluminium shell (I got a black one) So glad I managed to get what seems to be one of the last ever batch.

I’m still not sure whether I made the right choice going for a transparent Super NT though…I wish they had some actual real life photos rather than renders.

Hang on… this is an external item that converts HDMI to all of those different signals?

As far as I can tell it is an external add on that attaches through HDMI and then flips the system into a mode where it outputs a non-HDMI signal (likely raw digital RGB) that is then converted to those formats and outputs through the same DB15 jack as the original Analogue NT.

It wouldn’t be compatible with just any HDMI device.

I don’t want to get rid of mine. I totally think its an awesome product. I bought the real hardware NT before too. I sold that to get the Mini because of the rgb output. I really like the product. I just would have rather spent less and got a plastic thing instead. These are still toys yes?

If I had one beef with the mini is that I wish it was deeper not wide. I have a hard time fitting it on my game shelf because it’s both tall (with NES carts) and wide. Also, it’s a little too shallow for nes carts. They feel like they have too much play. And since I am redesigning the thing. Put the power in a spot that is easy to reach. Well after I wrote all that. I agree with my previous statement. I wish the thing was designed differently. It looks premium (i got the black too) but there are so many little things that bug me that I would not be surprised if they redesign the thing.

Here is hoping they do a Neo Geo next so @Peltz actually has a place to get a consolized Neo Geo. I wonder if he got his Omega yet. I think the owner is going to be at Retro City Festival this weekend.

It sounds like there’s at least a possibility a chance of this evolving to also be an HDMI to analog converter for non-Analogue HDMI devices FWIW.
