I think I got that one for $385 US. 1440p G Sync @ 144hz too. I would love to have a good IPS monitor but considering I just built a new PC a few months before hand I was strapped. I thought the color was really bad before too but I’ve figured out how to dial it in just right. I don’t even miss HDR when playing on this thing. If it’s sole purpose was for Tate I might take issue, but for all that it does, tate is just icing.
Yeah, Kawika and I have the same monitor and that comment about TN panels might’ve been true some time ago, but it’s not true regarding the G-Sync Dell. I researched really hard when I bought it because I could’ve waited and spent another $300 or more on the ASUS ROG line but it didn’t seem like $750 was going to get me a significant bang for my buck.
I have two IPS monitors (both non-GSync but nice screens) and this TN panel in my house. Is there a difference? Yes. The TN is not as vibrant as the IPS panels when you’re looking at the Windows 10 desktop. In most games, though? You can’t really tell the difference AND MORE IMPORTANTLY you get that sweet sweet G-Sync awesomeness.
SD2716DGR is the retail 27" model sold at Best Buy. DG only is the direct. You can get a 24 inch version if you want to save a bit more. SD2417DG is that one.
I just happen to have a video of it on my phone… totally forgot… IIRC, I was playing one handed while holding the phone. Ignore the messy desk at the time, please.
^ Nice, yeah I’m using two S2716DG’s myself, haven’t played any shmups on them (just replays lol) but I certainly like them as well. Didn’t realize so many of you guys had the same monitors haha!
It’s unfortunately way more expensive than that - right now - both on Italian Amazon and its biggest competitor, but things go on sale quite often, there, so I’ll keep my eyes open.
Out of curiosity: if I remember correctly, you have an OSSC, is that right? If so, how does your Dell work, in terms of scaling? I assume horizontal scanlines look perfectly even in every video mode (also thanks to the 1440p resolution).
You know Galdelico, I haven’t tried plugging the OSSC directly into the Dell Monitor, I’m primarily using it for capturing which I must say looks great in AmarecTV/OBS Studio. But I’ll try it tonight and report back. 4x line doubling on arcade games looks absolutely fantastic (here’s a link to a stream I did using it): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/215334276
With consoles though, I need to slightly change my setup as I also started using a new Extron sync processor which my CRT’s like, but it doesn’t seem to play friendly with the XCapture-1 or the OSSC, and introduces some unwanted artifacts in the image. And oddly enough it only does it with consoles, with arcade games the picture is totally fine. I’m thinking what I’ll do is split the RGB feed at the Extron Matrix, have one output to the new sync processor and to the CRT’s, and a second output to an older sync processor, then to the OSSC, and then to the capture card. Think that should cover all the bases.
I have the same monitor. I love it.
Is it possible to retrofit my current wall mount with something that can make my tv go TATE?
I imagine that would be tougher than just grabbing a new mount.
fair point
I might go with a solution like this. I’ve been addicted to Star wars pinball on switch and I have so many Tate 360 games. I should really invest in a monitor that can rotate on a whim.
