Thanks for posting this! - I had no idea there were third party alternatives out there. I don’t think Krikkz has confirmed the shell size for the N8 pro but if he goes with the larger one I’ll definitely be looking at one of these down the line.
Damn, the shell is sold out it seems
wait, which ones haven’t fit? now that ive got savestates working, i’m not sure what the draw is for the pro
Metal Slader Glory is the most recent example. There’s also quite a few rom hacks that don’t fit either
Sorry, I forgot all about this. Here is my official PC Engine EverDrive with my own made case and label.
No ugly screw holes and it uses the machines real name :p. PC Engine. The actual casing is held on with cement for plastics. Its going nowhere. Unfortunately I left this in the sun which has caused the label to fade a little. I should print out another.
Looks nice! How did you make the case, 3D print?
I had a friend make it. It’s kind of 3D printed but rather than printing with melted plastic is was built from powder. It has a much nicer finish than typical 3D printing. I’m not an expert on the procedure but I do know it wasn’t made like we see on videos of people printing their own stuff. This was made using some big industrial machine.
I have something similar with a similar feel it looks like. I bought my Turbo Everdrive when you could still just buy the boards with no case from SAG. Though mine doesn’t have a label and it has a little 3d printed button for the reset, plus it sits a little higher. I bought mine off some one on the now defunct pcfx forums and it just clicked into the holes in the PCB.
Just found an old picture I have of it.
That does look kind of the same. Does it have a nice fine textured finish to it?
However these types of cases are made is much nicer than the 3D printing we can do with printers for the home.
It does, it feels a lot nicer than the typical 3d printer stuff you see. Like you said the kind of stuff you usually see at home, where you can see all the lines of the hard plastic that the printer laid down. The old NeoGeoPocket SD cart had that home style 3d print, but the new ones he’s making now (I ordered a new case for the cart when he put them up) is like this. Which I think he called SLS printing. Which looking it up uses a laser to “sinter” a powered material.
Ah, SLS printing does sound similar to the method used by my friends company. Especially the powder bit.
so i recently upgraded my microSD (with an SD adapter) to a huge 128GB one for my SD2SNES just to have all the MSU1 files - double checked the compatibility list too - and my drives seems borked. menu shows up but just shows gibberish moving about, i can get into the options menu but not play a thing.
i tried with the original SD & older firmware, same results. i’m gonna take it apart & more thoroughly clean it today and hope for the best, but it’s not looking great.
so i was wondering: anyone done the stoneagegamer trade-in they’re currently offering? i’m wondering if it’d be worth replacing with the newer model there vs krizz’s annual black friday sale, i think that’s like 10-15% off but i forget. what do y’all think?
keep debating upgrading the others too, but i need to see if the newer N8 has better/more stable save states. the new master everdrive sounds like another i’d be after (maybe this year) but i need to see videos on it, the genesis one (if i’m reading it correctly?) remains a disappointment, since my current model doesn’t do save states while plugged into the 32x and it looks like that problem persists. ugh.
clearly, i’m mostly looking for good save states here
The N8 pro has much better save states - that said you’ll still end up with edge cases where the game doesn’t play nice with them.
The best part of the N8 Pro is that you have 100 save state slots per game - so you’re not living and dying by a single save.
this is good feedback, thanks so much!
anyone with info on SMS and newest SNES everdrives pls post as well!
turbo one still lacks arcade card or save states, so i’ve no reason to upgrade that or the.N64 one
You could always go the terraonion route with the Super SD System and get access to everything. It’s pricey though.
that things’ cool, not sure it’d work for my modded duo-R though!
okay, so it sounds like both the master everdrive x7 and n8 pro are winners for a ninja dog like myself. few more questions if anyone’s about:
1) does the Mega ED pro still not allow save states with the 32x plugged in? i know that was an issue with my older model
krikzz forums says yes sadly
- has anyone done the stone age gamer trade-in? their prices aren’t as good as the black friday sale at everdrive.me is looking, but it might be cheaper/easier to trade towards the upgrades
also? look at this fuckshit my sd2snes is now doing - upgraded the memory card (it was on the list of acceptable ones) and even if i put the old one back in, or roll back firmware etc this is all i see. ugh…its currently this one right here
anyway here’s that gibberish at startup, i can only access the one menu now, doesn’t seem to do much
That sucks, I’d contact Ikari01 and see if he has any solutions.
yeah, it’s weird - i tried every firmware i could find, 01.7a works but anything beyond that gives me gibberish again…really just wanna get it back to the recent firmware with FX/save states and all. is ikari on here, or what’s a better way to reach them?
