Looks like one of those focal point burn marks with the sun hitting at about a 45 degree angle.
Yeah, it’s got that too, I think from the previous owner. But the little two bubbles are new.
yeah no, I think those two bubbles ARE burnmarks. The area got too hot and the plastics of both the display and the lens have melted in those areas. Wherever you were storing this was subject to some focused rays at some point. Maybe from a glass cup, a pair of glasses, etc.
Apparently it’s the glue that holds the polariser down?
I bought this Pocket second hand two years ago and it’s always had the burn marks but no bubbles. The burn marks are symptoms of it being used in bright sun and as you say that sped up the process of the glue becoming less stuck?
As for storage it’s just been in a cold dark place the whole time so it’s probably the previous owner’s doing
Gameboy Consolizer kits back in stock over at Game-Tech.us
Doing installs on these for $100 if anyone wants one put together. The new shells look pretty cool. Not sure if I like them better than the square ones on the original run. This reminds me that I need to play some more of my GBA games.
I like the original ones more.
Can anyone recommend a good seller for the game boy color Q5 LCD, lens and compatible case? I’ve seen a few on Aliexpress.
Also where’s the best place to get a rechargeable battery pack?
Back in high school, I had the same idea for such a device - that would hook up a GBA to your PC for an online simulated link cable experience - but I had no idea how to even get started. In fact, I asked my dad to put me in touch with the IT folks at the company he worked for to ask them if they had any ideas on how this could work, and they basically just laughed in my face.
I knew it was possible and it’s cool to see someone actually engineer such a thing 20 years later. I should look up those chumps and send them this video.
This reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld where George has an idea for a (not so) witty retort long after the fact. “The Comeback”
George:
“Well the jerk store called and they’re running out of you!”
Other guy:
“You should know, you’re there number one best seller!”
George:
I rotate using https://handheldlegend.com/, https://www.retromodding.com/, and https://retrogamerepairshop.com depending on price and availability, and they’ve all been fairly good. Looks like RGRS has the Q5 on sale right now, but none of them have custom shells (I’ve seen it discussed as “coming soon”, but it’s been a while). I’ve only been able to get the pre-cut shells from Aliexpress.
Got my Q5 from this seller on Aliexpress. The pre-cut shell is okay, I think I would have sanded out the area where the LCD makes contact with the front shell a bit more before fitting the screen/lens as it’s a bit of a tight fit and I have a bit of light bleed from pressure. Hopefully, someone comes out with pre-molded cases
So this game was very obviously called The Castlevania Adventure right? That’s clearly how the logo reads. The ‘the’ is even the same colour as the Castlevania logo background.
But some muppet in marketing made it Castlevania - The Adventure on the back of the box.
You can’t post that without a link
I still prefer the original, non SP, orientation. Boxy Pixel does a full aluminum shell for that as well.
I’ve been thinking about doing this for my SP. they look great.
