Mega Drive/Genesis Mini - Sept 19th - M2 emulation/6 Button Pad/Yuzo Koshiro

Fair enough - I’ve never used a Pi box and the SNES classic was boxed away after Mario World felt like an alien game to me.

The MD classic is a nice novelty and I’m glad Sega finally put some real effort into something about the MD - it even sounds passable, which should dispel some of the Yamaha haters’ emulation based opinions.

It should have included more EA games beyond RoadRash - they should have found a way to make NHL Hockey happen.

Also, one more thing - playing Alien Soldier is miserable on this thing.

Why is Alien Soldier miserable on the mini?

I think he’s saying that input lag makes it miserable.

The lag bothers me more in Comix Zone than most of the games. Thunder Force III is also harder to navigate spaces for me, possibly due to the d-pad not being as good as the real thing. And the sword sound in Strider isn’t pleasant (I wish this had the full M2 treatment to adjust sound effects and music).

Still, even though it’s not as nice as the real system, this has the best Mini game selection so far. They learned what to do right from Nintendo and what not to do by Sony, and added more quantity and variety.

Yup, what @Peltz said - Alien Solider is a game where most of your time is spend teleporting past the boss at the last possible second. Having any sort of lag is not optimal if you want to even attempt to clear the game. It’s best played on a CRT, imo.

Dont forget RetroArch has runahead to remove lag, usable on all of these systems.

Strider has pretty bad audio lag. For some reason it’s more noticeable on certain games. I think the d-pad is great on these new 3-button pads though ofc that’s not going to help with any input lag.

It’s finally out in Europe and I love it :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Took some pics:
