NES/Famicom Appreciation Thread - Playing With Power, Then and Now

Looks great! Have you considered putting a blinking light win in it?

It’s actually been on order since mid-june, but it hasn’t arrived yet. I almost exclusively use an N8, so it’s not really a needed thing for me, but my current 72 pin is pretty darn loose. It can be a real pain to get working occasionally.

My go-to fix if it’s not cooperating is to use a game genie, which works every time. I just don’t enter in a code, then it’s like normal gameplay.

Speaking of NES RGB installs I jsut created a thread over on the Buy/Sell/Trade section for my mod services. Thought people interested in here might want to take a look!

I managed to flip my Hi-def-nes AV Famicom and I now have a replacement console on the way that I intend to RGB mod - what scart cable should I purchase for the mod given it preserves the AV-Multi Out?

Would I be okay with another one of these?: https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/nintendo-audio-video-guide

My RGB AV Famicom works with pretty much every scart RGB cable. By default it uses c-sync I believe.

Great!, that’s what I figured I just wanted to double-check before pulling the trigger.

Game-tech has the hi-def NES in stock and I ordered one for my toploader along with a fami red height-def NES so it’ll look like this when it’s done. $192 US shipped to Canada.

Cool. So you still have to do some modding, just saves you from cutting the casing, right?

Enjoy your kit. I parted with mine recently but it really is a fantastic piece of hardware, I only wish Kevtris would fix a few of the bugs the last firmware update introduced in the FDS audio.

I wish he’d open source the project but that’s a lot to ask.

Bringing the Fami colour back to the AV, nice.

Eventually I’m going to run an RGB OG Fami. I have the machine ready, just need to get it done…

On the latest Retro Roundtable Voultar mentioned he was working on a variant of Tim’s work plus a reworked power board to produce a no cut PCB for OG Famis.

Here’s the timestamp:

I made a ‘retail release’ label for another disk writer game.

Sounds cool, I’ll get one eventually!

Fantastic. Great photo, too, as usual.

Looks like the Everdrive N8 Pro is only a few months away - time to finally get my AV Famicom RGB modded!

Is this thing going to act as a Disk System as well?

Yup!, just like the original N8 it works as a Disk system and emulates FDS audio and other expansion chips.

Ah well had no idea the original did that

It’s not great at it. Many updates later the audio still isn’t there.

That makes sense. I have the FDStick for that reason!
