I just got a full on shipping notification. Eagerly awaiting a box of rocks as to not build up hope for it actually happening, or it being a fully completed game.

Pretty interesting thread by the developer of Tanglewood! And it looks like Paprium has its own onboard cpu to run the actual game, which makes the MD/Genesis just a dumb vehicle to display the game? Kinda like one of those GBA adapters for SNES?

We know nothing about it. The datenmeister was originally supposed to be a sound chip / DRM protection, and it is considered to have been the cause of most of the delays.
I was betting on a simple chip excision that allowed to finally get the game out and make some money, but apparently there’s still something in it, with an external connector? I’m currently assuming it’s an exposed data transfer connector which will allow people to upload a signed ROM file as a patch for the game.
But in reality, we know nothing until we get the cartridge and open it. IF we get the cart, which given the previous shenanigans, is not a given even now.

The FAQ tells us a lot about it. The question is whether it’s honest information.

It’s not. The MD’s vdp has hard limits on what it can generally display in gameplay. Any claims of more than 80 sprites in h40 mode is bullshit until we see the game in action.
And we really haven’t seen too much of this game actually running and being played by people. Whatever video there is is short and grainy. All the screens are doctored as well.
These things are in the mail, so I can’t wait to start seeing some impressions from people who aren’t true believers.
But my suspicion is that this is going to be an underwhelming to average beat em up.
And if you waited for impressions before buying like I did, your only option is to pay 170 US.
My order status has updated from packing to shipping! Holly crap, is this actually going to be released? Will we finally get it after years upon years of waiting?

Yep, mine is in the hands of the shipping company now. I expect it before the weekend.
I’m awaiting these developments rather eagerly. I think the game looks cool and has a mystique that you don’t often get from fan projects these days just because footage is so rare. I’m very intrigued to hear how this will all turn out.
