Nice! Mine was also shipped but I have no idea how when it will reach Japan. Seems to have been shipped from the US.
Apparently what happens when running on a clone console?
Lol. Wtf
So there are people that actually have it now right? Where are the videos?
Quite a read. I will still buy the game if it’s cool. Waiting for some direct-screen footage.
Looks pretty fun, looking forward to playing it tbh.
When mine arrived ill do a true HD capture at 60fps. God knows when it will arrived though. The game is shipped from the US.
Between this and Astro city mini, you’ve got some exciting stuff coming your way.
You know what? If this actually delivers I’m willing to extend them infinite benefit of the doubt.
Same. Looks like a fantastic achievement.
But then I have no money/time/stress invested.
I do have money invested, but if it turns out that they really were just putting their head down and working on the project and putting their full effort towards that I am 100% fine with the lack of communication and dropping off the map until it got done.
I’m also not building up any hope that that is the case until I have the product firmly in had since I’ve spent the past few years thinking they had taken the money and ran.
Game looks good. The music is tighttttt.
170 bucks is steep though…
Very steep.
I gave my opinion in the discord, but how I feel essentially is that it’s a good game with a phenomenal presentation: the graphics and sound track are superb. It also has a lot of depth in the original mode, with branches, alternate story lines dependings on what’s unlocked and how.
However, in my opinion, the gameplay isn’t all there. Some people say it’s not and shouldn’t be regarded as a clone of Streets of Rage, but it’s pretty much an attempt: most of the gameplay is lifted from that game, down to the combos, the specials, and even the characters, who mimic Axel, Blaze and Max.
But things are missing, which are even more missed given the rest is there: for example, you can’t break a combo with a special forward forward punch, and there is no desperation move to get away from tricky situations. It has been replaced by a Blu pill, which gives extra power for a short while.
Some moves are also weird, like there’s a low hit that can’t be integrated into combos, that is done with a dedicated button or by doing down B. It’s the only way to hit dizzied enemies and some special objects and the occasional very small enemies. I think it doesn’t flow well and has a very situational use that feels tacked on.
I can’t shake away that feeling that characters are sliding around as if they were on ice skates. There’s a disconnect between the moving animations and the background. I haven’t read this criticism anywhere else, so maybe I’m more sensitive to that aspect than most, in this case disregard that point.
Other things are better, like I feel it’s easier to pull off the B+C back hit, which I had a lot of trouble doing in SoR2, instead jumping half the time.
There are also a lot of neat little touches, interactions with the background and enemies that you wouldn’t expect.
Overall it’s a game that has a lot of ambition. The presentation is definitely there, it’s a fantastic game to look at and it looks as good as the bullshots we were shown imo. It sounds fantastic and it has a lot of depth in the sorry mode and has lot of neat little touches. However it would have gained a lot to be more thoroughly playtested and adjusted. How @Timu321 put it, and I agree, is that it has a very high production value that comes from when Watermelon was a whole team of talented individuals, that was put together by a single guy over the course of several years after the company imploded and everyone left. Fonzie assembled the pieces how much he could while also trying to find sources of financing, but the project is ultimately rushed.
But, if you can get used to it, it’s a fantastic game. I got used to it after my initial impression and, while is still acknowledge and see the flaws, the presentation and the depth of the story mode draw me in more. I’m going back to the game regularly and I enjoy playing it and finding out new paths and new backgrounds to play in, and new bosses to beat.
I’m just thrilled to find out it is an actual game.
Expected to be a little disappointed by the actual gameplay after SoR4 just coming out and loving how good it felt. Sounds like it has the stuff I thought SoR4 was lacking, interactivity and branching paths.
I got the game delivered this morning. Out of all the things happening this year, this was not expected at all.
As I was afraid of, the game didn’t work on my region modded PAL Mega Drive model 1. But it 's not because it’s modded, it has the model number (1601-05) they mention in the FAQ about compatibility issues. It only loads the copyright screen and doesn’t do anything else unfortunately. I tried booting in different region modes, but nothing else happened.
Luckily I have an older model 1 (1600-20), which I had to dig out and hook up. To my shock, the first time it loaded the mock game, which is supposed to load only on incompatible systems. But after turning it off and on again it did load the full game. I played through the first two levels so far and I’m impressed. I do agree with the above commenter about there seems to be lacking something in the gameplay department. But I didn’t play enough yet to fully grasp the issue.
